Default stock h pipe question

i was looking at the pypes o/r h pipe and the only difference i see between that and the stock h pipe is that it has no cats. wouldn't it be the same if i just welded pipes in place of the cats? i have a shop that will do it for 30 bucks. sounds like a good option to me. is there anything else that is different on the pypes?

or maybe i can even cut the cat out and then gut it myself and weld it back myself. that would be even cheaper.

There is another difference. The "H" section is not a full 2.5. Maybe they changed something in 07 but when I took mine off I was pretty dissappointed. Probably around a 2in cross section, restricting flow. So with that said, it will not have the deepness of the O/R H which is full 2.5.

Another bummer. Up around the bell flanges, right side, top of pipe, there was a significant crimp in the pipe where they mounted the O2 plug at the factor, basically restricting that. I hear a lot of people say the stock H flows pretty good. And their right. But you want great flow, go aftermarket. BothO/R or Catted in any brand are better than stock.

Plus you'll more than likely spend around $60 at least in labor. Maybe not, everyone gets different labor quotes.

doctorj77 is correct about the diameter of the stock H pipe. Plus if you just weld pipe back in the cats location you will have to weld in a bung for the O2 sensor that goes into the cats.

Don't forget inspections. You might need that stock H-pipe with cats one day to pass inspection unless you plan on bolting on a friend's.
