Default question over refund for paint proctection

I just picked up my GT on wed. The dealer pushed their paint protection (TST or TFT) and said it was great and lasts for 5 years.
I asked if I could think it over and let him know in 1-2 days. He said that he could only offer it to me at the "discounted" price now and that it would cost me more later. I agreed reluctantly and set up a tentative date in April to have it done. Thursday I decided against it and called him. I left a message cause not available. Did the same on Friday. Today (sat) I talked to him and he tried to push the product again. He then said that it would also affect his commission!! At the end he said he wasn't sure if it was possible to refund.
I told him I am not getting it and he said he would look into it. Do you guys think that it is a problem for the dealer to refund my money for a product I haven't even gotten? Also, if he couldn't do it, why didn't he say so first instead of retrying to sell me on it then mention about his commission!

Please give me any input you might have
thanks

I think that's really shady for him to say something about his commission. That really wasn't a smart move.

Anyways, I can understand it being more of a hassle to get it done later, but if you haven't had it done yet then they should give you your money back. If it was nonrefundable, they should have mentioned that in the first place. Then again, dealers tend to leave those things out a lot of times.

I agree totally with rockthepony.

I'm sure the salesperson makes a ton of money on that fancy wax, which is why they are "jacking" you about getting it done and not giving you a refund. I've never seen any of the "super wax" stuff be worth anything....let alone the outrageous prices the dealer's charge for it.

If it isn't done to your car, yet...then I don't see any way for them to keep your money if you didn't sign anything that said it was "non-refundable wax treatment".

Stick to your guns. Whatever happened to "customer service". You're the customer. If you don't want it, then who are they to pressure you to take it?

I cancelled mine by sending a letter to the manager of the finance/contracts department. Received a refund check within 2 weeks, no questions asked. You are buying a service that you haven't received. You are within your rights to cancel. Send them a letter.

This a "service" that hasn't even been done yet, not a product, so even if you signed something that said the protection was non-refundable, you should still be in the right to get the refund. Your salesman must be really inexperienced to say something like that, but it's typical most salesman don't want to talk to you after you bought the car. They are required to call you and ask how things are, then if you start telling them about some problem you have, they don't wanna hear it. lol!

Yeah, it sounds like bull. When I bought my GT, they pushed the Paint and Interior protection plan, as well as undercoating. I didnt bite at first, but did get the Paint and Interior protection a week later. Its supposed to be a $500 package, but I got it for $400. My dealer is Wendle Ford in Spokane, Washington, and they were real good to deal with. No pressure at any time, and they just mentioned these plans and didnt push them at all. I could have probably went a month and still got the plan for the $400. Wish Ide got the undercoating now, since the road noise is excessive and I hear it reallycuts it down.

For $50 in Zaino products, I could paint seal any car and it will look better and last longer than any of that "wax" dealers charge $400-$500 for. As far as undercoating, it too is a waste of money. Matter of fact, if not put on correctly (which most dealers don't), it will trap moisture into areas that can manifest itself into rusting prematurely.

Ask any reputable body shop.....undercoating is a "no-no".

Graphic Guy hit it right. Undercaoting and paint protection is pure profit for dealers. Its also pure crap. A good wax done on a regular basis will keep car looking good for many years.[sm=gears.gif]

Rxdork.
I work for a dealership, all you have to do is call you Finance manager and request a refund. Some dealerships want you to come in and sign a form. At our dealership we require this to be done and with in 4 to 6 weeks we refund the customer. If the dealership doesn't require you to come in and sign, put it in writing to protect yourself and have documentation.
