Default Burning smell, left rear tire

At least twice in the last month, I've noticed a burning smell in the rear left tire area. I have a 2005 Munstang, five speed. My driveway has been iced up for a while and I'm wondering if it has something to do with excessive spinning and engagement of the traction control system to correct the spinning. It's only when that has occured that I've noticed the smell. I have checked and am pretty sure it's not caused by ice buildup.

Would appreciate knowing if anyone else has experienced this or has suggestions before I go to the dealer.

Wondered if the ebrakemight have something to do with it. Both times I drove it about 3 miles, noticed the burning smell, waited about an hour it went away.

If that's what it is, how much damage would that cause or should I not worry so much?

Appreciate the reply.

I would take it in and have it looked at. I can picture a glowing rotor, lol.

+1 on the rear brake being locked up.

Most likely is an e-brake lock up. Mine did it the other day for the first time. Had never happened before, and I parked outside for the first time and it got down in the 20's. Froze solid. Try letting the car warm up for a little longer than normal. I don't know that I would drive it very far with it locked up.

I just took my car in today because of noise from the left rear. The brake pads on that wheel were completely shot - yet on the other three wheels they were fine. The shop said this was the 3rd one that they had seen in the last couple of months, and all had the driver side rear pads wear off but the others were fine. Maybe you have a problem with the brake dragging on that side, which they think is what was happening to mine.

Again, thanks for the replies. I'll get it into the dealer.

When you drive your car and the brakes sieze, it can leave a nasty smell.. That happened to my friend and it reeked.
