Tire reviews needed!
I have to agree with Pzero. If one tire is going to stop me 10 feet shorter than another, thats the one I want. Saving me from an accident is well worth it imo.
One day after I installed the F1 GS D3's I was on the expressway, and looked down for a quick second only to look back up at everyone on the brakes hard in front of me. I was able to swerve into the next lane and avoid a wreck. It was so close I swear I took the wax off the front corner of my bumper.
I believe any other tire I would have nailed him.

While I do think you get what you pay for, there are always exceptions.
So PZero, you actually have experience with all those tires or you are just throwing the "junk" statement around to emphasize your seemingly unwarranted dislike for them. No data or even hearsay?
An expensive tire doesn't make it better, Pirelli and Continential tires historically run big $$ but have average to poor reviews. Pilot sports seem to follow the adage.
Stoenr, I agree that the Goodyear F1 GS D3is a great tire but Nitto NT555 are well regarded around here and they cost $50+ less depeding of the size.
The tires I listed have the same UTQG rating and have the same wet and dry traction and heat rating as more expensive tires.
I know you think Kumho's are cheap Korean crap but the victor racers andeven theEcsta MX street tiresare loved by autoX and track junkies.
I'm sure these international tire companies are cheap because they are trying to compete in an american tire market, and not because their tires are markedly inferior.

Hey while we're on the topic, anyone sporting a set of Nitto Invo's ? Crazy tread design but they look like they might be a good tire.
Plus they're not directional, which totally appeals to me. I'm frustrated not being able to rotate my Toyo Proxes 4 right now.

I could guarantee the Goodyears to be better in any aspect other than drag racing over the NT555's
And last longer.
I think alot of the reviews given are from people giving their 1st ever review of a tire. dunno.
I see where your coming tho, the main importance is you don't buy a tire thats going to fail on you, just beware of the non branded tires, they will have a higher failure rate.
Also on a side note. Don't bother to compare UTQG rating to different manufacturers. It really can only be used in a reference to the same manufacture.
Each manufacture takes a 100 rated tire, and thats what they base the ratings on for the rest of their tire line. Meaning, Michelins 100 rated tire is not the same as Goodyears, or BFG's, etc... so that intern makes those #'s scewed to compare to each tire manufacture.
If I lost ya, which I think I may have lost myself, lol, its explained sort of like that here.

Basically, for example, don't assume Goodyears 300 rated tire will last longer than brandX's 250 rated tire, or vise versa

Well go with the General Exclaims UHP. They are cheap, yet outperform even the 200-300 dollars tires. Rating are found at the link on the bottom. They are ranked #1 in its category. 2 of my borthers use them and i will use them when my ires wear down. Tread life is great. This is a perfect example of high quality stuff at a great price.

Nexen 255/45/18 had the same grip a my 275/40/18 FK-452's and they lasted me for just as long. If they made them in 295 which is my next tire set for the rear, I'd definitely switch back to them.If they make them in the size you're looking for, then don't think twice and get them.
