To the OP, my bad...
I thought you wanted to yank the base out also...
If you leave the base it won't cause you any problems, just look funny.

ud be alright removing it - BUT if water builds up in that small hole you might get some rust in it over time.

dont waste your money on a stubby. You ca buy a internal antena for $20 and It gives you as good if not better reception then the stock antena, shorts tent to loose some stations and they still blow cause you have a antenna. You will thank your self in the end if you spend the small amount of money to buy the internal and have the gap filled and painted on the fender.

Why leave the hole open to collect water on such a nice ride? I bought one of these, painted it black and I think it's a better idea than leaving open - unless you are going to a body shop and getting it removed completely.

That looks great! If the OP ever did want to cut it down, I remember some time ago about a thread where a guy explained how radio waves wrok with anteni. The thought was that the length was directly related to the ability to pick up radio waves. Not just a shorter one won't work as far kind of deal, but that they had to a specific length and if cut down, it had to be done mathmaticaaly in order for the thing to work.

Pignprocess is right. I would eventually go with the internal antenna and get the old one shaved off. Looks better complete without. I heard of bad reception with the shorter antennas so kind of a waste of money considering it's still showing too.

Mine is in the body shop getting a few things done, one of which is removing the antenna and getting a power anntena installed under the rear view mirror...so I'll have my antenna removed and still havea better powered antenna that looks pretty stealthy...
