in order for the dealer to fix the "fuel pump" issue he has to be able to duplicate the problem!
I figured I'd rather have to turn the nozzle to the 2 o'clock position in order to fill it up than leave my car at the dealer's while they scratched their heads & butts trying to duplicate a problem that I said was there. Plus they'd just screw up the interior while getting the old tank out and the new tank in. They need to dig up the rear seats to remove the fuel pumps.
Besides, it kinda adds to the uniqueness of the first model year S197!

But the dealer service people are under strict orders to duplicate any customer complaints. I have a reoccurring rattle in the A-pillar and they won't take my word for it so I'd have to leave my car for who-knows-how-long!

Update:
Here's a link to a site with a possible fix for the fueling issue-

ORIGINAL: downriverT

Three years have come and gone already(39 months to be exact but who is counting). When I picked mine up it was the first that the dealer had. I had to wait a day after they received it to pick it up and the dealer said he had 3 people offer to buy it at sticker(I used A plan) before it was off the truck. They had to put it in the garage it was causing quite a comotion I guess. With all the time that has passed the dealer and the employees still remember everytime I bring it in the first one they seen. With all the mods I have never once have they gave me any issues with warranty work the hand brake, fuel tank, and throttle body have been replaced. To think I was never a big mustang fan before this car now I have to check MF everyday to get my fix and love everything mustang.
I paid sticker and was happy my dealer did not tack on the famous Market Value Adjustment. [&:]

I had mine to that the other day, but the brake came loose after a little bit of fooling around. Won't this happen on all mustangs? Why just the 2005's? I just don't use the hand brake in cold weather anymore...

27k here in new york on my 05. ive had a few problems in the past year but all have been rectified by ford. had a new set of gears put in "whining at cruising speeds", a new manual tranny "grinding/whining noises at cruising speeds", front strut bearings "popping while turning" and the fuel sending unit "randomly stuck at empty". the dealership told memost people would not have recognized there were any problems with the car except for the gas gauge sticking.helps to be a mechanic and know what your listening for to understand what a "bad" noise is coming from a component. i bought the extended drivetrain warranty just because it is the first year of a new design and didnt want to get stuck paying for replacement parts due to any rushed enginering gremlins.
