I was considering the same thing once and put in an order for a GT 500. Then the dealer started screwing around with my order so I got a black GT convertible with everything and then bought all the Shelby body parts, painted them and had them on the car before I took delivery. I had Shelby wheels and tires put on as well and a light bar. I lowered the car with Ford Racing parts. (Even the GT 500 needs this mod because they sit up so high from the factory) I had stripes painted on and clear coated over. Shelby's have vinyl stripes that start to peel off after a while and collect white wax along their edges. I had a 500 horsepower Whipple hi output supercharger installed and the car is stupid fast. I think it will out handle a Shelby because it weighs so much less on the front wheels-Shelbys use a very stout but heavy iron block and Mustangs use and all aluminum block which is much lighter. The service guys think my car is much faster than the Shelby's they have test driven. The downside is that twenty years from now the Shelby will be worth a lot of money, modified cars like mine, not so sure. When I was all done I probably had $50,000 (in new parts and labor plus the original cost )in my car. Convertible GT 500s were going for $65,000 on ebay last year. Today probably $55,000 will get one from a desperate dealer. What I created was a close copy of the 40th anniversary car in black with titanium stripes, with plain (ie No "GT 500) titanium side stripes.

Bottom line--- I could not be any happier and everyone loves my ride.
We need pics...

For the people who asked for a picture, I'm not all that great looking, nor do i know how to attach a picture lol
Don't put yourself down - you're quitethe hottie - and you seem to have figured out that picture posting thing just fine...

If anyone sold a GT500 forMSRP I'd be driving one. In this world of Edmunds TMV (way too high in my opinion), X-Plan pricing, invoice plus pricing and even below invoice cutting into holdback pricing plus rebates GT500's are still garnering a hefty premium over MSRP. I've yet to see a dealer sell one for less than $70k here in (not so) sunny CA.

Too bad too cause a lot of people buying them are putting them in mothballs hoping to make a killing in 5, 10, 20 years. I think low mileage GT500's will be a dime a dozen in 10 years or so...
