Default Mustang Newbie Help....Engine/Aircon Problem

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and completely new to owning a Mustang. I have got to say since buying my Mustang two weeks ago I feel like a complete kid again and feel 6 years old every time I put my foot down and hear the noise from coming from the exhaust.

I am having a few problems that I want to get fixed though. I live in Dubai and got a US import, its not under warrenty either (probably a bad mistake) - I bought a 2010 Mustang GT Premium in the 4.6L V8 version with 64km on the clock.

I have noticed two things and one minor thing that I need to get fixed.

Firstly the aircon is blowing hot air and I cannot get it to cold, initially I am thinking this is a Freon issue and am intending to get the levels topped up - however when it blows I hear a clicking sound coming from the dash board above the shocker sound system panel which leads me to believe something could be jammed or not working correctly - has anyone had similar previously? It does blow cold air randomly from time to time but in the majority it is warm.

Secondly and more importantly I have now noticed on 3 occasions the car stuttering when I either accelate at a high rpm or drop a gear into a higher RPM e.g. going from 4th gear at 60kmph down to 3rd at the same speed - the car will judder/stop and the orange engine light on the bottom right part of the speedo will flash. If I leave the car for 5-10 seconds and take my foot off the gas it will correct itself and run fine. Again I thought this could be a spark plug misfiring or an issue with the timing belt, but tbh with no track record of having owner a mustang I am not sure. It also has happened on the other two occasions on corners when I am going up through the gears, I will put the gas down and it will just stutter/judder along as if misfiring. It is random and apart from that the engine and transmission seem fine/very clean/good.

I got the car checked out by a mechanic prior to buying it who advised the engine/transmission/chasis were fine.

I am pretty worried about the above two things and any advice would be appreciated.

Finally the back red light just above the drivers back wheel arch (illuminates when you unlock the car) is out, not a major issue but hoping its not a pain in the a*s to fix.

If anyone can give an indication based on experiences on what the above two problems might be and the costs involved to repair that would be great, at least it will give me some knowledge prior to going to a garage at what the issue might be and what I should be looking to pay to get it corrected. Sorry if its ambiguous and I know its hard to diagnose an issue based off little information but I am hoping someone has had similar and can give me some options.

Thanks in Advance,

Tom

I cant tell you about the AC, but the studdering is not something wrong. It is one of two things.
1. You are hitting the RPM limiter and the engine computer is cutting power (its between 6000-7000 RPM)
2. You are hitting Traction Control, the car detects that the rear wheels have lost traction (cornering or hard acceleration) and it cuts power. This can be turned off by a button in the center dash

Be sure that the freon level is correct. If it is low, that could cause the a/c compressor to cycle on and off, causing a clicking sound.

For the hesitation, it's likely one of these:
  1. Turn off the TCS; it's cutting spark
  2. The fuel pump needs replaced. There's a TSB for hesitation when going 1/2 to full WOT following some steady-state cruising. This was a chronic issue on a number of the 05's and '06's (and some later)
  3. Clean the throttle body
  4. Replace the fuel filter.

@ Kevin, Nuke and Art

Thanks for your help guys, sorry for the late reply, so it was exactly what you said it was, ie the TCS kicking in on losing traction, I got the back tyres replaced with new ones and tbh I hardly get the engine cut anymore when dropping a gear, and with the TCS off it doesnt at all (although I dont trust myself with TCS on corners).

RE the AC: I had the freon level checked and topped up, then sent it to a ac specialist, because the car had been in an accident the person who repaired it didnt fix the wiring to the fuse box properly so it was shorting, I had them redo the wiring and now the AC runs perfect and cold.

The only issue I have is clicking noise that happens when I turn the car on or change the directions on the AC, I think this is the AC door/blend actuator, which I am going to get replaced - exactly the same noise as this video;

Lastly though, now the AC is fixed, I have one last issue or it may not be an issue, when the AC is on, the engine makes a whining sound, so as I increase the RPM the whinning gets louder, I never noticed this before as I never used the AC. Is this an issue I need to be worried about? I have done research and have read it could be anything from compressor issues to one of the belts?

I know a friend with a mustang has had the same for 2 years and apart from the whine it doesnt affect anything else?
