Default Aux - Ipod?

Hey gents, I'd like to open this up again because I can't find anything on the web.

I have an 06 Gt, shaker 1000, I want to hook up my ipod to it, besides an fm tuner, what do I need to hook this up?

Thanks

Well you should have an aux input jack in your center console and all you need is a 3.5mm audio jack to plug your ipod into it.

If you have an aux jack and power port in your console box I recommend theBelkin Auto Kit. Can be had on ebay for $25-30. Connects to bottom of iPod giving best quality sound and also powers/charges it too. I have one in both of my cars and it's absolutely the best value solution IMHO.

Anything that connects to iPod headphone jack has marginal sound quality, you have to use volume control on iPod, it does not power/charge iPod, and also will not pause (shutoff) iPod when you shut off car.

This is true, it gets kind of annoying if you dont have a charger and your ipod is continually drained when you forget to turn it off, I dont have any problems with sound quality, but your def right the belkin kit is the way to go.

The problem with the '06 is that there's no AUX jack in the center console. You'll have to get an adapter to wire from the AUX out on the back of the Shaker system so you can hook up an iPod/external device. I'm in the midst of researching this right now so I can hook up my iPod. There seem to be a couple of solutions out there but they all involve removing the head unit and doing a bit of wiring. I'm hoping to figure it out by the end of the week.

Thats really the only way, don't go with a transmitter or anything like that. I got a jack rigged up to my 2005 from logjam electronics, and I haven't had an issue with it yet, get that one. I took it into Best Buy to get it installed and they only charged me $20 for the labor. It plugs into the headphone jack via a monster-cable that I also picked up from Best Buy (employee discount FTW) and the sound quality is perfect. Sure it doesn't charge, but I have a charger in the center console compartment at all times anyway, and the one that does charge is like $70 more or so

If you want to do it right....as in you plug the ipod in and never have to mess with it while listening to it, get the brandmotion ipod solution. It charges the unit too, but more importantly lets you mount it somewhere out of sight (I put it in the glove box), with a cable run to the back of the radio aux output where the rest of the adapter is. Again, this way it is out of sight and you can use the stock radio to do all your music "adjusting".

Pick up a iSimple ISFD71 for around $100 on ebay.
It directly connects to the stereo and allows you to control the iPod from the factory controls.
It will display iPod information on the Shaker's LCD.
Search this forum for ISFD71.

If the OP is going to consider this option, I would STRONGLY suggest determining which version this one is. I use to have that one (it is exactly in the same box as my original one was) if it is made by Peripheral. I had mine installed for prolly a year without any problems what so ever. But, after pulling the mustang out of storage the following spring and driving it again for a few months, I started having dash warning light problems (like MANY others). Prior to that, I had NO issues. Finally, my dash went nuts and I had to take it to the dealer since my TC was "off" and wouldnt come on, reported the engine as overheating even though I was POSITIVE it wasnt, and many other problems like that including oil pressure. The problems only went away after I removed the entire device. I eventually found on a mustang site where Peripheral had issued a "recall" and had removed them from their "compatiability" list after admitting that they had some sort of "programming" problems that were causing problems in '05+ mustangs.

In their defense, they were totally cool, even though I got it through Best Buy (but past Best Buy's return timeframe). They gave me total credit back that I paid for it, and I give them alot of props for that.

Only recently I have found out they have re-released their ipod solution for '05+ mustangs, evidently fixing the problems from before. But before I'd drop that money on a "fleabay", I'd request some sort of part number or something that you can use to call peripheral and determine that is the NEWER and FIXED one. Otherwise, it'll be money pissed away since I doubt they cover them now that they have refunded them from the past.
