Default Hood Corrosion question (TSB)

Ok - I just dropped off my car at the dealer body shop for the hood corrosion problem (TSB). It wasn't bad - just about 1/3 inch on the front hood lip and some spots under the hood near the front. When i took it in last week they said they would do a "spot repair" (as is detailed in the TSB). Today when i dropped it off, I asked about just getting a new hood and they said OK.

My questions are:

1. Does anyone know if this problem develops and spreadsor if it would have come that way when I bought it - i bought it new (2006) and did not notice it until about 3 months ago - then read about the TSB on the forum. Did anyone not have this problem when they got the car then saw it develop over time?

2. Do you think I am better off getting a new hood or having the repair recommended in the TSB? I am just concerned that the new hood may have (or develop?) the same problem? Of course I will check it thoroughly when I pick it up.

Any experts out there - or comments/advice?

Thanks!

I haven't heard about it occuring in the 2007 or newer hoods. I suspect it may be a reoccuring not in the same place but as other conaminates come to the surface. I'd opt for the new hood.

S**T - Just got a call from the body shop saying that I "misunderstood" and they would only repair the problem. They did actually tell me that they would ordering a new hood - I did not misunderstand. Now they say to replace the hood, they need authorization from Ford.

I am calling Ford now to see what they say.

Unbelievable!!

Only hope Ford will give an authorization - they are calling the dealer body shop now.

Default RE: Hood Corrosion question (TSB)

Just talked to Ford - they kept me on the phone while they called the dealer body shop. They spoke to the service advisor that talked to me and took my car and they (Ford) said he never told me the hood needed to be replaced. Again - he DID say that - only that I needed Ford authorization. Ford told me that, based on what the advisor told them - they could not authorize a new hood. He denied that he had told me they would replace it. My mistake was that i did not get it in writing that they would replace the hood when I left the shop. I realize this now.

I am just wondering what happened in the hour between when i left the car there and when the advisor called me to say they were already working on my car and it would be ready later today or tomorrow. This was kind of odd...

Would it cost them (the body shop) more to replace the hood? Is that why they changed their story? Seems like Ford was willing to act based on what the body shop told them.

I don't understand what happened here...
