The transmission isn't jumping around under the car. There's no telling what you did when you installed your torque limiters. all the torque limiters do is prevent the transission from turning to one side.

Just think about it... Why use a 2 piece driveshaft, or let the tranny jump around? Ford doesn't do that randomly. Its designed that way. Same with the weight of underdrive pulleys. These items are meant to dampen things.

Have I put a video under the car and verified the tranny jumps around alot? Of course not. But the fact that CHE invented the torque limiters tells you enough right there. After I installed them my entire car would shake because the tranny shakes so violently and now it was being held to the car.

If you hold the tranny tight then something has to give, plain and simple. Components inside the tranny will take all of the stress now.

I dont think hes screwed, he can uninstall them like I did and stop more damage from happening. And I dont guarantee everyone will run into problems. But I know what happened to me, and Im pretty sure its whats happening to him, so people can take that for what its worth....

crap....thanks acrokat.... thats what i was afraid of.....if i have a B&M shifter and 4:10 gears would it void the warranty on the synchro replacement?
I don't know about the gears, but DEFINITELY put the shifter back to stock.

Chances are if you don't say anything about the gears, they'll never know. They'll see the shifter though, and I'm thinking they'd give you hell about it.

Torque limiters are just like stiffer motor mounts. They keep the engine from torqueing. The reason Ford doesn't do this from the factory is NVH. Us modders are willing to live with NVH, and will do these mods. I don't see how installing the torque limiters, or motor mounts for that matter, could cause wear and tear. Just more NVH. Your logic seems to be that Ford doesn't do it so there must be a reason. Knowing Ford as well as I do, that seems unlikely. Ford does things like this for two reasons. To keep costs down, and to keep cabin noise down. The first being the most important.

I just started having this problem today myself. I grind going into second about 50% of the time shifting around 5750K or higher. I never had this problem before, and I don't know why it would occur suddenly.

I do have the CHE torque limiters, but I've had them installed for over 6 months. I think I will take them out and see how that goes.

If my synchro is going bad, how much time is involved with that kind of work?Is there any other way to tell if it is my syncro, orshift fork, or something else? Maybe I need a clutch adjustment?

sounds like a synchro to me... don't forget these trannys are not the strongest things around... add some mods and lock them in with poly bushings and braces and all you're doing is making sure that all the torque is sent right through the trans...

DarkFireGT is right in a sense that they keep things from torqueing but torqueing does help dampen shock... the shock of a 5k+ powershift is now going full force into your gears instead of being partially dampened by whimpy black bushings... All the mods that we do to get every last bit of power to the wheels will eventually take a toll on the weaker links in the drivetrain... synchros are a very weak link, especially in a very weak trans...

How do you figure? If the engine is torqueing, that means the car is not going straight into gear, it's rubbing along the side and almost beign "jammed" into there. The torque limiters (or stronger motor mounts) keep the tranny in place, so when you put it into gear, it goes straight in. I don't see any reason that would cause damage. But, I see plenty of reasons why trying to go in when it's turned to the side would cause a problem.

TLs or no, Ijust wantto figure out what I need to do to actually diagnose the problem. Or am I really stuck with bringing it in and expecting a few days downtime at the shop?

On the way home today I did two more WOT shifts at 6000k rpm, and I went into second no grinding, but it seemed to require more muscle than usual. I don't ever powershift, I still granny shift at high rpm, precisely because I didn't want to cause this kind of problem.

Is it true that this tranny has internal stop bolts? I've read that, but never been able to confirm or deny that statment officially.

I have also read that replacing the tranny fluid with a synthetic has worked.

I am also thinking about going back to the stock shifter.

Yes the tranny has internal stops. Tremec's website specifically says it has internal stops and to not use an aftermarket shifter with stops built into it
