Shelby stuff
I bought the 2007 Shelby annual magazine a few weeks ago. Well, I finally got around to reading it. It's got some interesting articles about Shelby the racecar driver and the legend behind the cars.
One interesting fact is that the 350 in GT350 had nothing to do with the car. I always thought it was supposed to represent the HP. The article states that every name they came up with was either taken or sounded like a competitor's model. Finally Shelby became impatient and asked his fabricator how far it was between two buildings on the property. The guy said "About 350 ft." Shelby said "That settles it. GT350."
The magazine also has separate articles on the Super Snake and the GT500KR. According the the KR article, "...the production KR will not wear the same stunning Shelby designed 20-inch wheels we saw at the New York Auto Show. But it will sport scaled-down 18-inch versions of this design, made from forged and polished aluminum and wrapped in high-performance rubber."
So, for those of us who like the Alcoa rims but are not crazy about 20's, they will be making 18's.
Also, the original name "King of the Road" was stolen right out from under GM, who planned to make one of their Corvettes a KR model. Shelby got wind of it and immediately sought a copyright for the name and got it.
I haven't finished the magazine yet. Just thought I'd share those tidbits with y'all.
