Pulling Transmission!!!
Thanks for the concern guys, but I'm not worried. I'm not posting the thread asking if/how I should do it. I just wanted some thoughts on what I should modify while I'm at it. Thanks.
Hey, I have a 07 GT and it has 6000kms on it and i have been having the same problem. I took it to ford and they drove it and after having the car for the day, they tell me i'm not driving it hard enough ??? and to drive it like i stole it ?....but it does'nt feel right. I have been driving sticks for like 8 years and know how they should act ?? What do you guys think ?
I've driving manuals for about 10 years myself and never had this problem either. My b/f thinks I need to be more aggressive with the shifting (1st to 2nd and 3rd to 2nd). But, we both still agree that it is a bad synchro and would prefer to do a transmission rebuild and replace the clutch while we're at it.
I just got my car back on the road after I dropped the tranny. I installed a Fidanza aluminum flywheel, Steeda level 2 clutch and Steeda short-throw tri-ax shifter. If you have the tranny out I recommend replacing the release clyinder as well.
I did it on the garage floor withthe car on jack stands, be preparred for 2 difficult tasks:
1. Getting the tranny crank to line up with the clutch\flywheel, there is not a lot of room. Let the engine rest down on the engine mounts, it will offer a better angle to line up the tranny.
2. Bleeding the release clyinder (remember these cars have a hydraulic clutch, sharing the brake reservoir) the bleed valve is impossible to reach with a wrench. I was able to bleed it b jacking up the drivers side and pumping the pedal several times, each time checing the fluid level and repeating.
BTW, The performance that I have seen is incredible
Good Luck

I started getting some slip with the stock clutch, that's when I decided to upgrade to a level 2 Steeda. In my opinion the stock ford clutches are a bit undersized for these motors, especially when you start adding performance mods and increasing horsepower. I went with the aluminum flywheel for more torque.Just be careful in your selection, lighter flywheels not properly designed can be more stressfulon the crank. I faithfully believe in Steeda parts, they obtain the Ford specs. I have even been able to ask questions directly to thier mechanics for help.
Added hint: The top 2 bolts holding the tranny to the engine can only be accessed by letting the tranny\engine lower on the mounts. So remove the cross-member bolts and support it with a jackstandto gently lower it to access the top 2 bolts.
Good Luck

That's awesome, Hunt! Thanks! We decided to do it after May when we move because we'll be able to use the garage the wholetime at the new house. I'll keep posting my progree when we start. I've already considered the clutch from Steeda too. Thanks for all the great input!
