I have quite a few friends and acquaintances with S197 Mustangs. All who drive Autos are girls and the ones with manuals are guys except for myself. My girl friend with a Windevil Blue Auto cannot keep up with me, even with her foot to the floor. In a battle between Auto and Manual and missing gears...it all depends on how good you drive your manual. I've never missed a gear in this car because I've perfected my ability to drive stick for about 8 years. Driving over 50 miles a day in commuter traffic (bay area, ca) is not a problem for me. I wouldn't go back to Auto anyday. The only auto I want is a in a truck for cruising

I read a mustang book at barnes and nobles, talking about the History of Mustangs....In the book they said that thse S197 Mustangs in Automatic, shifts just as fast as a person racing a manual. And that they are the best automatic transmission ever built for a mustang to date..........I Love my auto and will never ever buy a stick......I would prefer riding a horse and cart than driving a stick..And or doing the flintstones, by removing my floor and pushing with my feet's.....Auto is Luxury....thats why it cost more.....
My a/t shifts very fast with my current set up and tune.

I have a 06 GT auto, sometimes a regret not getting a manual. Manuals a fun to drive but can be a pain in the *** some times. All in all I'm happy with it.

Because I got a SCREAMING deal on it...
So what's the total value of that screaming deal now, considering that there is more to the whole business of buying and owning a car such as a Mustang than just the $ (which I doubt that you ever physically saw as cash or have sittingas a wad in your pocketanyway).

What I see as a common thread in all these discussions where somebody apparently has a case of "buyer's remorse" over something is that the purchase was made in haste or perhaps under some form of pressure from the seller. It's not like that opportunity (or possibly an even better one) has absolutely no chance of ever happening again. What ever happened to taking enough time over these decisions so that you're more likely to be happy in the long run? Any need for instant gratification can have a 'downside'.

Old saying #1 "Marry in haste, repent at your leisure".

Bonus points for anybody who can identify the actor or character who once said "Be sure you're right, then go ahead.".

I have an automatic and have no regrets..I run a car lot so if I want to drive a stick I'll drive one for a weekend and get it out of my system. Sticks are ok but my days of rowing the gears everyday on one are over. The auto on the 05 and up carsshifts faster then the stick does after you install a tune anyways IMO. My carchirps the tires in 2nd and 3rd. I'm enjoying it and so does my wife so I guess thats all that matters.
