How do you double clutch?

How do you double clutch?
Just a ?, what exactly is double clutching. I tried it today to see if it would make my shifts smoother, it kinda did. First I tried it were I shifted from first to second gear, and I pushed the clutch in, put it in neutral, then released the clutch, then pushed clutch in again and put it in 2nd gear....Then I tried just holding the clutch in putting it in neutral, then whatever gear I was upshifting into, it seemed smoother, than the normally jerky shifts I get usually. Any ideas?

Beg to disagree at least a little (I know, we've been through this one before).
It does make life a little easier on the synchros under certain situations.
But the OE drive-by-wire is not the sharpest tack in the box when it comes to working with you on this. Sometimes the little kick on the gas as you re-engage the clutch in the neutral gate gets you . . . nothing. Fortunately, tunes seem to be a bit smarter (at least the FRPP one is).

RE: How do you double clutch?
Double clutching is where you
1 - push in the clutch for a downshift
2 - shift out of gear
3 - let the clutch out
4 - blip the gas
5 - depress the clutch
6 - shift into new gear
7 - let clutch out
You need to do all of this within 1/2 a second or so for the RPMs to stay up where you need it them to be. Those that have said double clutching is for gearboxes with out synchros are right. However, this is a good technique if you don't want to upset the weight distribution of the car during a turn. This is basically what Heel-Toe driving is, except you're operating the brake while you're blipping the gas.
Linky for different shifting techniques (including some exercises)
