K, n00b question: how do I check the valve stem?
K, n00b question: how do I check the valve stem?
The valve stem is the little rubber thingy stickin out of the rim
and it has a cap on it. Dont confuse it with wheel weights which
look like little slugs of lead clipped onto the edge of therim to help
balance the tire/rim assembly. Back to the valve stem... Take the valve
stem cap off and squirt some soapy water into it. Bubbles means
its leaking. No bubbles means no leak. Be sure and replace the
valve stem cap when done to kep dirt out.

Its called a flat. They happen sometimes.
There are places you can take your tire
and they can patch it for you. You dont
need to buy a new tire if they try and sell
you one. Get out the ol soapy water and
spray some on your leaky tire and the
leak will appear as bubbles where the tire
is leaking air. No bubbles, no leak.
I would hop on the valve stem first if
no nails are readily visable upon inspection.

Unless the nail (assuming it's a nail causing this) is in the sidewall - then he might need a new one. A lot of places will only patch/plug if the nail is in the tread area. But as mentioned above, check the valve stem first.

Any sidewall damage requires a new tire.
