If you remove them, you will have two holes instead.

I was talking to the guy in the service dapartment and he said that they are not riveted to the fender. Said they are held on with adhesive. anyone else know if they are riveted or not?

They are held on by 3M VHB acrylic adhesive but aligned by
two alignment pins into two alignment holes on the fender.
The holes are even different sizes to keep the assembly
line workers from putting them on upside down.

Not a dumbass idea at all and very do-able. The two small holes need to be welded and preped and painted. Costly but it can be done.

I removed mine and yes there are 2 locating pins. But I got 2 "Powered by Ford" badges which were wide enough to cover the holes. Looks great! I also covered up the GT on the fake gas fill below the trunk lid.
