Help with Torque convertors?
Is it worth it to buy a TCI torque converter... 500 is alot but If it will pull .3 off my ET then it's probably worth it. In general... how well do S197's respond to this mod?
i'd like to know also...what is the stock torque converters stall? what would be the optimal stall for a daily driver that sees some track duty every now and again?
Hey Charlie,
The new T/C will definitely change the way your car feels. You will break the rear tires loose very easily! It will take at least .3 off the 1/4 but it's all in the 60ft. The new T/C will help only on the launch, once you get running it doesn't really help. Onc ehte launch is complete, the rpm's will always be above the stall of the converter and it will feel like stock fom there on. Yeah, they'll talk about 'efficiency' and all that, but the TCI unit is a single disc, and no more efficient, in fact, probably less efficient, than our stock multi disc unit. The stock stall speed is 2450, the TCI will give you 3000.
If you're interested, cause I know you live near me, I have a ProTorque converter http://www.protorque.com/ the exact same one that Realspeed http://www.realspeedautomotive.com/installs and sells for sale. They're made right in Bohemia and they, IMO, are a better quality converter than the TCI. It is a 2800 -3000 stall, and it was in my car for less than a month so it is barely broken in. I paid $750. If your interested, PM me for a price, I'll give you a deal since I won't have to ship it.
