i seriously doubt that. there probably will be a new twin turbo v6 supplemental to the V8, but it will never replace it. half the point of getting a mustang is that v8 snarl. otherwise its just another sporty car.

Yeah if they ever dropped the V8 they can expect a large percentage of buyers to forget the Mustang when they buy their next car. Sure a lot of the Mustangs are 6's but American muscle has 8 (10 if you count Viper) cylinders. If you take the soul out of the car, it will die.

That's like saying youwouldn't want a Buick Grand National 'cause it was a turbo 6. I would definitely purchasea twin turbo V6 'stang.

But most people wouldn't. Ford has tried to drop the V8 from the line-up twice. Both times it came right back. They know it won't work. The V6TT that has been rumored, if becomes available, will be supplemental, as stated above. It will be an option. And probably a great one. But to me, it's not a Mustang without a V8.

Guys, with the gas prices where they are at and obviously not slowing down, for Ford to drop the V8 would not be a suprise. It's going to be like the late 70's all over again. But, the Mustang will survive like it always has even if this rumor comes true.

While the V6TT would be a great option for a lot of people, i just can't imagine a world without V8 Mustangs.

I don't think that Ford will mess withthe Mustang too much, especially after the success they have had since its redesign... Does anyone remember when the Probe was introduced? That was supposed to take over for the Mustang so they could retire it... Where's that car now?

This is not the first, or last, oil/gas crisis. But each time Ford has tried, they've failed at removing the V8. I highly doubt they'll attempt it again. If they do, history will repeat itself and they'll bring it back. They tried in '74. They tried to drop displacement in '80 and '81. The designed the '89 Probe to replace the Mustang, but drew so much criticism over FWD and lack of a V8 that they couldn't do it.

I read that the twin-turbo V6 will have direct injection and produce over 300 hp. The article stated that direct injection was "key" to improved performance and fuel economy for a smaller engine.

If that is the case, why don't they use direct injection in the 4.6L V8 and have a 350 hp Mustang that gets 20 city and 30+ highway?
