Dropping the V8???
not sure if its true but a buddy of mine said ford announced they will be dropping there v8 by 2010 altogether off the mustang in place of a twin turbo V6. cant find anything on the net about it is this true?
i seriously doubt that. there probably will be a new twin turbo v6 supplemental to the V8, but it will never replace it. half the point of getting a mustang is that v8 snarl. otherwise its just another sporty car.
Yeah if they ever dropped the V8 they can expect a large percentage of buyers to forget the Mustang when they buy their next car. Sure a lot of the Mustangs are 6's but American muscle has 8 (10 if you count Viper) cylinders. If you take the soul out of the car, it will die.
But most people wouldn't. Ford has tried to drop the V8 from the line-up twice. Both times it came right back. They know it won't work. The V6TT that has been rumored, if becomes available, will be supplemental, as stated above. It will be an option. And probably a great one. But to me, it's not a Mustang without a V8.
Guys, with the gas prices where they are at and obviously not slowing down, for Ford to drop the V8 would not be a suprise. It's going to be like the late 70's all over again. But, the Mustang will survive like it always has even if this rumor comes true.

I read that the twin-turbo V6 will have direct injection and produce over 300 hp. The article stated that direct injection was "key" to improved performance and fuel economy for a smaller engine.
If that is the case, why don't they use direct injection in the 4.6L V8 and have a 350 hp Mustang that gets 20 city and 30+ highway?
