Default Ideal shift points

Ok this is a newb question, I have never raced. How do you learn what the ideal shift points for your cars manual trans? I know some install shift indicators. And some come stock with indicators like the Shelby GT500 I think.

Any tips or resources to share?

Shift 300 RPM before redline. That is when the throttle body begins to close.

actually that will vary with every gear. In a nutshell, looking at a dyno graph you want to stay centered over the power peak. Since 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 aren't evenly spaced the IDEAL shift point will change for every gear. Very few vehicles make Peak power at redline. they usually crest several hundred rpm before redline. You would have to set up a spreadsheet with your ratios and a dyno sheet to know exactly.

In looking at a few charts I would say shifting a little before redline(5800?) in 1-2 and 2-3 and then wringing it out to 6200 or so would net you the fastest accelleration.
The first three gears are always closest together.

6700 is waayyy out there unless you have some cams.. Motor signs off well before that any dyno chart will show you that.
