Tuning (reprogram), need some advice
I read alot of posts here about bama tune, or xx tune, etc. Being new to Mustangs and not knowing all the lingo, etc, I have a few questions.
The FAQ talk about tuners like they are 3rd parties who re-write the programs from companies, so I am confused. Can someone clarify what these mean:
XCAL2, SCT (tuner co?), and Diablo (tuner co?). So does Bama take the Diablo tune and change it? I'm quite confused, and will probably feel pretty stupid when someone points out the explanation.
1) If a tune is so effective, why doesn't Ford change their program to get the same result?
2) typical prices?
3) I assume it's just a plug into computer, change settings, and drive, right?
4) Are they / can they be dangerous to the engine? I am nervous about causing damage from detonation, lean, etc.
OK, so if I have a GT manual with no modifications, I am willing to run 93octane gas, but DO NOT want to compromise any parts of my vehicle (foul o2 sensors, etc), don't care about fuel milage, and don't want to do any physical changes (only tune), what is suggested? I would do it on my own. Oh yeah, I have no smog requirements in Michigan at all.
I know alot of people here go extreme on some stuff, but I'm just looking to get extra kick with only a tune.
