Upper Sway Bar Link to Strut Torque - Special Tool?

Upper Sway Bar Link to Strut Torque - Special Tool?
I just replaced my struts and strut mounts on my '06 GT. The shop manual states that the nut for the upper sway bar link to the strut needs to be torqued to 85 Ft.Lbs. How in the world do you guys torque it to that reading? The stud on the link will just spin if you put a socket over the nut. Is there a special tool? Help!

Yes, its a called a crows foot and allows one to access the top of the stud with a metric six point socket or a six point closed end wrench at the same time the big holding nut is tightened to the proper specs with a torque wrench and a crows foot. An impact will do in a pinch. The impacts will allow tightening
of the stud without holding it from turning.

Well...I bought a 6 point 18mm crowfoot and it is too big in diameter to effectively tighten the nut because of the strut flanges on either side of the nut. Are you sure that there isn't some special tool for tightening this nut...maybe a special type of crowfoot?

I gave up trying to use a torque wrench. I put a box end on the 18mm and an 8pt socket on the stud end and tightened as much as I could. That was last fall. I just checked them last week and they were a little bit loose so I re-tightened. I have never had any clunking or problems with it.

Well, that makes me feel a little better. I wonder what the stealerships use. Probably just an impact. Does anyone know if a special tool is called out in the shop manual?

I generally tighten everything to torque specs. but I dis my shocks struts & springs also. The one your talking about I just tightened as tight as I could get it. When I went in for my front end alignment (you need one too) I had my tech. check it.
