Just clean your rims more often and all you will need is water

christ, comet?! that's a rather abrasive cleaner - it's almost like using a brillo pad; it's definitely grainy and harsh. i guess if you didn't have any problems, that's cool, but i wouldn't ever use that stuff on my rims. i mean, sand paper would get tar and salt off, too

Christ, Comet?
Bonehead move on your part. []
Why not just sandblast them
or use crumpled up aluminum foil?
A wire bar-b-que brush would work, too![8D]

I just use turtle wax ice.[&:] There is also some stuff from autozone that works good but I use it for my exhaust tips. A buddy of mine showed it to me one day and it works great. I'm not sure of the name but it comes in a can and you just tear a piece of the cloth off...almost like cotton.

i use mothers wheel cleaner. you spray it on, even the inside of the rime where all brake dust goes and is hard to get to w/ your hand w/out taking the rim off. you leave the wheel cleaner on for a couple minutes, then hose off. gets rid of almost all of the dirt and brake dust. then i go over it better w/ mothers chromepolish bc i got chrome rims of course. and it comes out like new.

Wash them more regularly and they will be easier to clean
without resorting to comet cleaner?
Use a commercial rim cleaner such as Mothers.
