If Im going from learning on a mini cooper and being 'pretty good' at it and want to know if the Mustang will be too hard to shift (because its got a V8) what would you tell me?

My friend sold his 350z because it was too fast to shift effectivly
ok this made me lol

i just test drove one of those the other day. yes, the gearing is close (its a 6 speed), but its in no way too close to shift effectively

driving a manual mustang is easy. it lets you know in a big way if you do something wrong

Switching is no problem. The clutch in my old truck (87' Ram 50, 4 banger) was twice as long, and so was the shifter. Switching to this was a step up, even with the 3x + increase in power. Driving any manual is easy, just take some time to learn the clutch.

I want to make two points about the difference. The manual is more fun and it gives you more control. My only problem with automatics is that for example in my friend's dad's BMW M6 even with the sports tuned automatic the shifting often occurs at strange moments and sometimes you feel bogged down, while with a manual you will always be in control of things like that.

The modern Mustang manual transmission is one of the easiest I've ever driven. Especially the S197. It's a piece of cake.
I agree to a certain degree. However drive an Audi if you want a smooth manual transmission/clutch. The S197's transmission is very loud and unrefined IMO. It does it's job and I'm not complaining though. I do find a big difference between the V6 and GT transmission/clutches.
Yes, European cars shift smoother. What I meant to say is that the clutch is very easy in this car, compared to Asian cars.

The automatic is about 3/10 of a second slower (1/4 mi) than the manual.
The Manual gets about 1 mpg better city and 2 mpg better highway than the auto.
Its really personal choice. If you dont like driving you will hate a manual.
You may still dislike a manual if you spend lots of time in stop and go traffic.
If driving is a true joy to you an automatic is like a tv dinner versus home cooking.

The manual can handle more power and it's easier to do a donut. I love the sound of the pypes mid mufflers when down shifting.
