If seeing 6k which Ford allows is THAT terrible for this small block than they wouldn't have the limiter that high.

I repeat, fatigue is not a pass-fail kind of thing. So 6k isn't bad for the engine taken one run at a time for a few seconds at a time every so often. But like the horrible example competitor in the oil comparison commercial on TV, it might not live up there indefinitely (two million revolutions would take just over 5.5 hours done in one shot but would also represent several thousand brief excursions up there).

Presumably Ford has made some estimate of how frequently the average customer is likely to run the revs up, how much throttle is otherwise used and over what rpm ranges(in my industry, a number of possible events are defined, along with their severity in some fashion that can be related to stress and estimates ofhow many times each event can be expected to occur).

Redline would logically be set at a point that considers such things asthe ability to make a targeted amount of power, warranty costs, marketing appeal (just think what the PR backlash might have been if the technical folks had chosen 5950 rpm instead and refused to back down), and I would assume a whole lot of other factors. Once you have the basic information, fatigue evaluation becomes a huge exercise in bookkeeping - something that computers are extremely well-suited for.

I have already had to replace my Raptor shift light
as all of the LEDs finally burned out from use. [&:]
And I have it set at 5300 RPMs.
Shetakes what I give her. Hopeshe holds up
for the time I haveher until selling for another.
5300?

Mine is set at 6200! No wonder yours is burning out!
I have a V6. It rev limits at 5750?
My MSD DashHawk's shift indicator is set just
below the stock rev limiter. The Raptor is kind
of a pre-shift indicator. It works well that way.
The DashHawk is a visualAND an audiable warning.

If I was under some kind of a warranty, then sure I would beat it! Since I am no longer under a warranty & am liable foranything that breaks, I drive normal. I can hear the exhaust just fine cruising around.

I average mine on pen and paper, the really old fashioned way! I do average 28 mpg all highway driving though.
