Default Serious (?) Issue with my Mustang

The car: 2005 automatic V6

Issue: two weeks ago I start the car up, am sitting there in park idling, talking to a friend for all of 2 minutes on the phone. During the conversation the car just stalls. I turn it back on and the throttle isn't really responding and the car is chugging, the wrench light comes on and it stalls again. This light is the electronic throttle sensor thing.. I wait another 5 minutes and try again and it starts perfectly fine, drives home fine, and I haven't had any issues until today.

Today: I park my car, have it idling, grabbing a few things and then it just stalls again. Start it back up, wrench light on, stalls immediately again. I didn't try starting it and just went back into work... I am hoping it works when I go out in the morning and try to go home.

My question: Is this a serious deal? Am I boned? It has 42000 miles and I bought the lame extended warranty so I'm hoping this won't be too ridiculous... is this a common issue or is something really messed with my vehicle?

Kind of a interesting problem which will be a pain in the a$$ to duplicate for the dealership. Just note your problems and it sounds like a fuel problem to me. Atleast that is where I would start but anyways just take it in, not a common issue but i dont think it your screwed here.

Tried again, managed to keep it idle for a good 5 minutes and then it stalled again. Frustrating.

Since you bought the extended warranty you might be ok. Hopefully there's a code in the PCM that the service techs can work with.

I bet they replace the throttle body. I wonder how many trottle bodies could have been cleaned and reinstalled, instead of replacing them.

42k miles, have you had the fuel filter replaced?

I found this TSB..

http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/galaxie/tsb/tsb05_14_04wrench.pdf

However it says its for vehicles manufactured before 11/04 and mine says 01/05 on the sticker. I am assuming this means it is not related? The issue sounds very similar though.

Reference fuel filter changing: I got the car with 25k miles and haven't done anything besides the needed oil changes. It's my first vehicle I've owned that wasnt 20+ years old and a piece of junk so I have probably taken its reliability and "newness" for granted and neglected some maintainence work I should be doing.

Would the above also mess with my extended warranty coverage?

EDIT: Oh, also, my speedometer hasn't really worked in a while either. If the car has been running for a while it usually works OK but whenever I start the vehicle up after it hasn't been running for a while the needle usually just stays at 0 or a little below 0..

One more update... hope someone can provide maybe a little insight.

I went out after work this morning, started her up and immediately switched into drive and took off to see what would happen. It drove perfectly fine, I got home (about 15 miles) with no issue.

When I parked and put the vehicle into park it immediately stalled and shut off. Every time this has happened it was with the vehicle in park. That's when it goes down and the wrench light comes on. Is there some correlation here? Still seems to drive fine..

Im assuming when the RPM's drop significantly it stalls, which Im pretty sure has something to do with the fuel system... give the stealership a call...

If the "wrench" is coming up, it is probably throwing a code. Sounds like what an "Extended Warranty" was made for. Take it to the dealer.
