Default hey 05 Convertible owners!

Anyone make heads or tails of that soft boot cover? the thing doesnt come pre molded and im having the hardest time figuring out how it goes on. Any tips would be appreciated. Is it even worth the trouble?

I only put mine on when I'm going on a longer road trip... when I go to the store or something, I don't worry about it... I also always put my top up when I can't directly see the car, so using that damn boot all the time would suck...

Tips for installing it...

hmmm... start at one of the back corners, and push the boot down, get that hook thing down under the body so it latches... then work your way to the other corner, stuffing the boot in along the way...

Then hook the top two straps behind the seat and push the part that goes between the seats in...

Then fight with each side's front part, forcing it up and under that plastic moulding, take a bit of care, as I've pinched/poked myself many times trying to shove it in...

After all that, go around it again and push everything in to tighten the boot up...

I know that sounds like a lot, but honestly after you use if a few times it'll take more shape and get a lot easier to use...

Now folding that thing (according to instructions) is a pain in the ***!!!! I just fold it over a couple times and throw it in the trunk...

best thing for it...before putting it on...if its sunny and warm out...let it sit in the sun to soften it up

Have any of you noticed when you have had the top down for awhile and then put it up it tends to be wrinkling??? The top has a hard time strighting out. I have the boot too. I put it on once. It is much harder to do then other verts.

I did have a 2002 Sebring Vert, then a 2005 Toyota Solora, and now the best 2005 Mustang GT Vert.

The Mustang is my favorite of course however, the technology is far behing others. Liked cloth tops better.

I noticed the wrinkles too...

they go away a lot faster when it's warmer out... when it's cooler out, or if I've left the top down all night (in the garage of course) the wrinkles seem to stay around forever..

I think how the new '05 top drops down, I would not really bother with a boot.
Unless you can store it inside and just keep the boot on most of the time, hardly seems worth the effort.

I would agree it's not worth the effort except for two situations...

1) long road trip
2) at the track

while it prolly doesn't do much, there's gotta be some airodynamics issue with the way the top folds down behind the seats... the boot appears to soften this sharp line out, and I would imagine streamline the rear of the car...

a 1/20th of a second or a .2 mile per gallon gain would be worth the minute or two it takes me to put it on...

Granted, I don't own a wind tunnel, so what would I know?

Can anyone post a picture of the soft boot on the car? I failed to order on with my car, and I am not so sure I really need it. I never did use in on my 86......

I sure wish we had the solid tannu covers on the new convertibles....That would really look sharp. Is that a possibility aftermarket?

I think they gave the 05' GT's the 03/04 Cobra Vert Cloth Tops, heres some tips.
The sun will make everything better, makes the boot softer, mold better and easier to put on.
It also makes the top un wrinkle pretty fast when u put it back up.

I forgot to say that all these things are normal, of the top and the boot.
