Why would you own a perfomance car that you intended to drive under perfomance (read: dangerous) conditions and not only want to know the cars limitations but what those limitations feel like. What i experienced was not the rev limiter buta mechanical problem with my clutch (car is in the shop right now). Iwas intentionally trying to bump the limiter to 1) verify where it kicked in 2) decide how early i needed to shift to avoid it 3) see how far back it went if i did hit it to determine stratagies to compensate if i ever miss timed it 4) understand what that felt like so I would be certain to know what was happening without having to take my eyes off the road to look at the insturment panel. The same day I also tested my breaks under heavy conditions and determined how far i'd have to go to break traction in a turn. So that wasn't the only "idiotic thing I did that day.
Agreed

Every car I have owned for the last 35 years I have pushed tofailure so I can know what to expect in extreme conditions. To misquote Clint......a man's got to know his car's limitations. Trying to learn these limits under hazard or terrifying situations is not a kind school......learn them under controlled situations.

I wouldn't do this, but I've seen LOTS of people roasting off thier tires andjust bouncing off their rev-limiters6 or8 times.Again, I wouldnt' do that, but their cars are still running strong. Hitting it once (intentionally or not) isn't going to hurt a damn thing. Especially if its at factory settings.

Yeah but like how ABS works in a real situation having someone feel it for themselves the first time vs trying to explain to them what it feels like are two totally different things.

My daughters car has ABS and the first few times she took it out and I was with her I told her to stomp on the brakes, do not pump your foot, when the ABS Kicked in she freaked! Imagine experiencing something like ABS/Trac Control/ Rev Limit in a panic situation. Not good.

True, but i purchased my car used (had to have the '05 cos it was the first year!)...for all I know, the last owner could have slapped some freaky tune on there and sold it that way. I did check here first to discover what the number was 'supposed' to be but I wanted to verify that under controled conditions, and, in my opinion,it's important to know what it feels like. Bumping the limiter won't do any damage...that's why it's there...to prevent us from doing damage.

Which ofcourse begs the question. Why do tuners increase the limit if the ones who designed and manufactured the engine in the first place set it at 6200?

Totally agree. I very rarely have to hit the brakes that hard, but when I do...ABS still feels freaky. The only bad thing
hitting the rev limiter will do is screw up your 1320 ET.

These motors sound great at high rpms. The rev limiter is set too low. Set the limiter to 6800
and shift at 6400-6500. Haven't heard of anyone here blowing their motor due to over revving.
Theones who have blown up motors are the ones running boost.

Of course I wouldn't shift there everytime, but when you want to...she can take it.
