Default Rev limiter?

I just got my'05 GT about a month ago. I have not had alot of time to get used to it. Took it out tonight to a nice quiet stretch of road out in the middle of nowhereand figured I'd open it up. I wanted to see where the Rev Limiter kicked in first so I left it in first and floored it...well... not a good idea. Before it hit (or after?) the rev limit it...locked up. Hard to explain but letting off the clutch was like pressing the break. Let it coast to about 5mph with the clutch open, shifted back into 1st and let off the clutch and it was like nothing ever happened. I'm new so forgive my ignorance but, what happened here? Should'nt I have bumped the rev limiter before something like that happened?

I haven't ever heard of that happening. I hit my rev limiter in 1st gear by accident one day. And all that happened was I lost power and just left off the gas and hit it again. But, don't try to hit that stuff. It is for when you don't mean to do it. Not just to do it.

Hitting the rev limiter isn't that big of a deal, just try not to do it that often. The factory default is 6250. Brenspeed reset mine to 6500 which I still hit on rare occasions when I'm not paying attention. These engines are well balanced and constructed. They can take the occasional run-up to redline.

It doesn't sound like the rev limiter. Did you have TCS on?

I launch my car on the deck (when I don't spray out of the hole). That means on the first light I put it on the wood. It's banging the rev limiter when I dump the clutch. It leaves well this way.

If it was the rev limiter (which I don't think it was) it shouldn't do any damage to the car. Given that the car is in proper operating condition.

I don't think its even worth speculating until we get a clearer description of what happened. It could be that he just ran it up to the rev limiter and it stopped accelerating, thereby feeling like he was "pressing the break"... Kind of an idiotic thing to do anyway you look at it...

Wow, no need to get defensive.
What's idiotic is setting out to purposely hit the rev limiter, just to see what happens. Can you tell me why you would want to do this? Obviously it didn't work of too well for him is he is posting to find out what went wrong.
