Dude,

Sorry about your accident and any suffering you may be going through. I know it's not easy to go through all this mess. Just don't get in a hurry or let the insurance company pressure you into settling your claim. That is how they get graded, they want to close out all claims within 30 days and it looks better to the government and their rating.

If they do end up totaling your car, look at my signature. That baby is for sale so I can buy a Shelby GT500. I have one on order but it takes a while to get them so I have some time.

I received two phone calls today. The first one was from the shop that is inspecting my car. They said from looking at it, that they think the car wont be totaled. They went on to tell me they wanted to move the car to another shop to have the frame (?) measured. Makes really no sense to me, since there's not really a frame to speak of to measure. I guess they are going to look it over and make sure nothing between the wheels is bent. He also said they wanted to prepare for fixing the car. I told him they didn't have my authorization to do any repairs to the car, even though he didn't ask. I also told them that if they don't total it I am just going to request a second opinion from the insurance company.

The second phone call was from the claims adjuster for the other kid. He told me there was an insurance dispute, but in all likely-hood it would result in them covering my claim and leaving the kid out to dry. Apparently only his mother was covered on the car, even though they require all residents of the household to be listed on the policy, regardless of them driving the car or not. He also said that I should fight with my insurance company to get them to total the car. He got the extension for my adjuster and I made him aware of my intentions to get the car totaled. He said he'll call me today and that should my company refuse to total it, I would be able to drop the claim with USAA and have them re-appraise the damage and potentially have the other company total it. The guy was real nice and extremely happy I didn't bite his head off over the fact that the kid had an insurance dispute.

Everything might take longer than expected, but I think I should be able to get what I want out of the car. Thanks for the offer 05blueGT, but the only way I'll buy a car older than 07 is if it is a low mile 05 mineral gray. The only reason I'm even really considering used is because mineral gray is my favorite color and I really loved my mineral gray 05 4.0

Tomorrow I'll try calling my adjuster and see what she says. I have no intentions of fixing the car, even if there is no possible way to get them to total it. Worst case scenario is I part the thing out. I'm hoping the driveshaft pressed on the transmission and ****ed something up. That would almost guarantee they total it.

I don't think it we be totalled on the strength of it being a rearending. Also if I am not mistaken our cars don't have frames do they? A frontal collison is most likely to yield a total loss, unless you really get blasted. These cars are quite stout when it comes to rear end collisions. I'd say the estimate of 9-10k would be close.

By the way I bet the kid driving the other car was either a restricted driver, or his parents didn't put him on the policy when he got his license. I get a lot of parents that think they actually have a choice on putting Jr on the policy. They get a quote to add him and when they find out how high the rate is the claim he isn't gonna get his license. The funny thing is, we can give them a big screw you because they purposely withheld information about the drivers in the household. But as you see you can still make a claim so it's all good.

Yeh, from what their representative told me, it seems with their company that everyone over the age of 15 is required to be listed as a non-driver or a driver on the policy. That means even 85 year old grandpa that got his license taken away 10 years ago should be listed as well.. Seemed kinda crazy to me.

joshetc, keep in mind that you are free to choose a body shop on your own.
Thay CANNOT force you to go to their "preferred" shop, which usually sucks in quality (8 times out of 10).

Also, a good repair facility, will fix this car right and maybe improve a few things.
So, no matter how bad the car looks now, it can be brought back to the same standards that it was before the wreck.

Right. There is no way I wont be having one of my dad's friends do the work. Not only do I trust them more, but they can get parts cheaper and give me aftermarket superior replacements whenever possible. First of I'd be getting a rearend with 3.73 gears in it already and FRPP stingers. I really don't wanna fix it though. Even if I have to take a loss I'll probably part the car out and buy this mineral gray. It is the car I've wanted since the mustangs came out, I just couldn't find one good enough when I decided to go for a GT and they had awesome deals on new 07s so I went with a vert.

How about this mineral gray one? This is my wifes car but she won't part with it.

356 miles after I took delivery of my car, and had 12,000 dollars in shelby parts, ford parts and whipple parts added, the tech took it for a test ride and crammed it into a telephone pole. The pole hit the left front tire dead on and pushed it into the driver's wheel well near the door. There were other scrapes and dents on every single panel of the car as there were bushes on the other side of the pole. The insurance people said 13 grand to fix the car. I told the dealer, I wanted new and he did it. the tech worked nights transferring the supercharger, suspension, shifter etc on to the new car. I went through my insurance, the rates did not go up, I got paid for a new car plus my deductible. BUT HERE IS THE IMPORTANT PART TO MODDERS: Insurance companies will not pay you the enhanced value of your car, so if you have 10 grand in body parts and 10 grand in the motor and your car is destroyed, you will get current market value for your car as if it were bone stock. The only insurance carrier that covers your claimed replacement value including all added parts is CHUBB. I don't have them but after reliving my nightmare in this thread I can say I am thinking about it again.

There is a good ending. The car I ended up with, despite the water leak, now fixed, is a far nicer car than the first one I had. I also added the intercooler to the SC and wow did that make a difference The first one came from another dealer that did not prep the car properly, it had scratches all over and was probably a test driver for teenage GT wanabees. So go get that mineral gray, the car you always wanted anyway!!

you should be able to get a rider to insure any additional mods not covered by the insurance policy for your stock Mustang.
It may seem like a lot more $$$ that you may never get back so you'll have to decide if it's worth it to have the protection, how likely the mod will be stolen or destroyed in an accident, etc.
