RE: removing the air intake restricter - good or bad??
How did you get it out???? I jsut went out to look at mine, and its fairly well in there! Will It have to be put back in for a smog check in the future? Is it good for an extra 5 HP??? Does it jack up the gas milage?
ANy help is appreciated, As I feel I need all the HP I can get.
Cheers
Brian

I was recently at a Mustang shop and one of the mechanics showed me the air intake restricter in my GT located within the air intake hose. He said it supposedly directs the air in a certain pattern (not sure what that does), but I carefully removed it and noticed a bit of difference when on the freeway - I have more response when I hit it!!
So am I just imagining this extra HP, and what exactly is the purpose of this restricter (better gas mileage) ?
Thanks
Carl

Right...is it crammed in there or applied with glue? I'll probably take mine out but I'm wondering how "easy" it can go back in - when I go back to my dealer...

In the hose there's a little lip of rubber that keeps it in, I rolled back the hose to the point where you could start to see the edges of the cylinder, then I stuck a piece of plastic (like a shoehorn) between the rubber and the cylinder (so the lip doesn't fall back into place), once I could see all the edges, I used needle nose pliers and carefully pulled it out.
I've noticed a difference, which means it's getting some extra HP (like I said though, mostly when I punch it, I get more of a response). But my MPG sucks even more. But damn I love that car!!!!

I've taken mine in for my 5000 mile and they didn't notice. When I had my 2002 GT, I removed that stupid rubber air intake hose that was limiting the air as well through a narrow gap, later when I had warranty work done to it they didn't care.

yup thats the bugger thing we all talkn about lol
robs about 5 hp
its called a pre cat.
it slows the air flow going into the motor
and its to stop gases from coming back out when the motor is off
rip her out boys lol
hope that helps

RE: removing the air intake restricter - good or bad??
Anybody know if this would have been taken out by Saleen when they add the K&N?? I COULD go look but just thought I'd ask the quick question.

RE: removing the air intake restricter - good or bad??
Some folks in other forums (shhh...I read other forums) say that a K&N filter and ripping out the air restricter (air silencer?) is preferred over a CAI due to the CAI being metal and therefore heating up and robbing HP.
