87 octane with a 93 perf. tune... what would happen?

Haha...never...NEVER ask "what's the worst that could happen?"
Don't do it. Premium is only about $3-$4 more every time you fill up as opposed to 87...not enough to complain.

the 3-4 dollars difference is very true and a good way to look at it..
and orion.. your an idiot.. no offense.. I HAVE A TUNER... and.. WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT AS FAR AS 20-30 DOLLARS?!..
wow..
anyways.. i thought detonation/pinging would be the problem.. but i still havent heard as to why or exacty what would be damging the engine.. i HAVE heard that motor will go boom, and that i would be replacing pistons, heads, etc.. but WHY.. what causes those to good bad?
also, i am normally not the one to Btch and moan about the gas prices, bc when you think about it.. $50/week to haul our asses around in a sick as car and go as fast as we do and not have to walk.. thats a SMALL price to pay when you think about it.. i did however forget the difference between a fill up on reg. and a fill up on premium.... its pocket change..
so fck it is basically what im saying.. and so you know.. my step dad was the one hasseling me about it.. and i told him its not good.. but he comes up with the reason that you dont need it unless your FI.. and i said right... but the tune requires it or you get pinging..
so i dunno.. i wish i could put him in his place.. but cant seem to find enough facts to back it up..
thanks guys

Ask you step dad to add a pint of water to his car and see what happens. Its the same thing. If he doesn't understand pinging, tell him it will knock (old school for pinging). You could end up damaging the valves and eventually throwing a rod.

What pinging does is cause a momentary hesitation in the fireing order, basicly to explain what it does to the motor is like this.. Get on a bike and ride fast and every so often put a stick in the spokes sooner or later you will fly over the handle bars as the wheel seizes up.

Either spend the $50 for an 87 tune (which STILL kicks azz over the stock 87 tune) or invest that $50 towards the $3.20/week (assuming 16 gallons/week at $.20/gallon diff between 93 and 87 octane). It's silly to spend the kind of money we do on these cars, mods, insurancve, etc., and then whine about a few $$'s/week...
Here's just a few "save a few $$'s/week for gas" tips:
[ol][*]Drink water instead of soda[*]Pack your lunch[*]Brew your own coffee[*]Stop smoking[*]Walk or ride a bike for those short trips[*]Drive (gack...) like (cough...) grandma (hurl...)[/ol]
(ok, #6 is really, really going too far...)
Definately a no-no to run a lower octane fuel than what the tune calls for.

as much as i hate to say it.. this is what it has come to.. ]=
BUT... i never drink soda, never buy fast food UNLESS i absolutely have to bc im going to die.. and i dont drink coffee bc it gives you nasty breath and i dont smoke bc thats gay.. (but swisher sweets and cigars are alright once in a while.. )

Hereare some links forexplainations aboutengine knock/spark knock/pinging

It's a bad idea to run to low a grade of gas if you require 93 octane.
