suggestions for GT purchase
Hey folks. I've got a V6. I did not expect to fall in love with this car the way I did or, I would have gotten a GT right away. Anyway, I'm thinking to get a used (06, 07) GT next summer. Any suggestions on what to look out for? What to stay away from, what to make sure to get? Thanks for the tips.

If you buy a 2007+ make sure it has the 3.55 Option (assuming manual) unless you plan to change the gears.
Other than that I got a base Deluxe and the only thing I miss is the delete option I didnt get (wish it was a spoiler delete car).
Premium car if you want Leather and Shaker.
"Interior Upgrade Package" if you want the Aluminum Dash, Extra Gauges, Leather Wheel, etc.

+1 to what Gene says. Base deluxe = light weight. My 07 deluxe weighed 3343 lbs on the shipping invoice. Deluxe with 3.55 gears and 5 speed offers best bang for the buck.

I agree with the 3.55 rear gears unless you are planning on doing any mods later. If you plan on changing the gears later to 3.73s or 4.10s I wouldn't bother paying the extra money up front for gears you will change. I had the 3.55s stock (05s hadd 3.55s stock) but after a few mods I knew I was changing the gears anyway...I wish I could get a new head unit. The 05 didn't have an aux input for ipods and doesn't have the message center like the 06+. Oh well, I wanted to be the first person on my block with an s197 and had to get it the first year out.

RE: suggestions for GT purchase
I just purchased a used (1) owner 2006 GT Premium 5 speed with 3.55 gears and 17,000 miles, 20 inch staggered fit rims, GT500 spoiler, tinted windows, in perfect condition for 21K...Just make sure to check that the vehicle has a CLEAR title and not salvaged, check the CARFAX report to make sure the vehicle hasn't been wrecked or used as a rental and how many prior owners. Other than that, you are smart to buy used so you don't have to pay dealership fees and taxes...Good luck and enjoy...
