4.10s

RE: 4.10s
How is that possible? If my calculations are right 1st should go to around 38 second to about 62 and third to around 90 and 4th should be around 120 and 5th 170+...

I wish I could trade you - your 3.55s for my 4.10s. In a day to day scenario I like them alot but in highly aggressive driving I'm constantly bouncing off the rev limiter, not enough "top end" in gears 2-4. 5th gear is pretty much an overdrive and thus useless on a road course. Right now in 4th gear I hit the rev limiter at around 100-105MPH, which is too slow on most road courses.

Gas mileage isn't affected too much. I went for a late night cruise with some friends 200 miles round trip and when I filled up after I had 24.3 mpg and this was with lots of accel and cruising around 70-75. Also top end is not affected whatsoever. 4.10s just make your cal pull hard as ***** all the way through.

EDIT: I used the following calculator to determine the actual speed (http://www.wallaceracing.com/calcmph.php). Input: RPM=6200, Tire Diameter = 26.03, Rear ratio=4.10, 4th ratio=1. This gives me a speed of 117MPH. So, I'm wrong on my original post of 105MPH. Doing the same calculation with a 3.55 rear end gives me a speed of 135MPH. Big diff. So...I'm going faster than I thought, good! But I still hit the limiter, bad!

RE: 4.10s
This may be a stupid question cuz I'm not a track racer... but you DO know that the main reason our top end isn't affected is because your 5th gear ratio is so small. The gears before, yes, of course, but top end in 5th no. Soooo what's an extra shift to get into the top speeds during 5th?

EDIT: found another calculator. Shifting from 4th gear at 6200RPMs to 5th gear will drop the RPMs to 3800. Thats a big drop, you loose a lot of HP, at the end of a straight you might as well be coasting, it gains you nothing.

I have an '06 GT automatic, and I went 3.73's 2 weeks ago. I happy, but I was not as dramatic as some people described. I only lost about 200 RPM's,(tach-ing 2600 RPM @ 80 MPH now, used to tach 2,400 RPM @ 80 MPH) and according to my dash readout, I lost .3 mpg's! (for what thats worth) same kind of driving, highway cruising. It definitely made a difference, you don't have to go into the gas pedal as much for the same amount of acceleration, but I'm thinking maybe I should've went with 4.10's, then again I'm mostly highway driving with minimal track time so I can live with it.
BTW No gear whine at all, at any speed thanks to a good install (thanks Alfredo! Valley Performance) Gears will NOT whine if installed properly.

For anybody looking for 4.10's they may whine. If they're done right they won't be loud but they may still whine. Not all will...but to say that flat out they won't if installed properly is just not accurate.
BUT...don't let a little gear whine stop you [if it even happens]. A little while is worth it for what 4.10s will do. I have 4.10's and will NEVER go backwards!
