Yeah I knew it wasnt from me squeezing it...I caress it very softly!! LOL I will post up pics tonight or tomorrow and will also go ahead and email Hurst Customer service. I bought a black ball just to be on the safe side in case it actually splits on me, but I got hosed on the black one....it doesnt even say Hurst on it??? wtf?????

OK I just got off the phone with Bob Ritzman at Hurst and I am going to ship him my ball so he can see what is happening. I will get it in the mail tomorrow and hopfully will have some answer soon afterwards. I also let him know there are quite a few of us having the same issue. He asked if it was in direct sunlight, if I lived someplace with extreme cold temps, etc... I am in Raleigh NC so no temperature extremes and the whole car only has 2500 miles on it so its not an age issue.

Dothe one's that are yellowing and cracking have the Hurst logo on the sides? Mine came with just the plain white ball, no logo, and it still looks new. Wondering if there's a difference between the two.

Its a hurst, it probably rattled so much it cracked. In seriousness, my shifter itself gets HOT, could the temp change cause the ball to crack? -Jon

Hahaha damn Hurst shifters. Now on to the serious part.............you may have something there. I too noticed how the top of the chrome stick gets really hot. I think that could be a very good explaination of why the ball is cracking.

I live in Raleigh too, I have probably 40,000 miles with my shifter and it's still white, and no cracks. It has to be some kind of random quality issue I would think.

I got my extra one at Carolina Mustang in Cary....it was like 35 buks. The place is pretty competitive price wise, as I got my steeda springs there for 250 and my Corsa exhaust there for 750, which is the same you find it for most places on the web....
