Weird issue - can you help? (UPDATED)
Here is the issue:
On our cars we have fan/vent speeds that are numbered from 1-4. When I put my heat or air conditioner on speed 1, it comes out much harder than speed 2. Basically, my speeds go from 2 to 1 to 3 to 4. Any idea why this happening?
How can I check and fix this myself? I dont like the dealership touching my car unless its a major issue.
Someone had mentioned a fan resistor went bad and that it needs to be replaced - does this make sense? Where is this resistor located and how do I replace it? Please help - thanks!
BTW - my car only has 7,500 miles and if parts are failing already - its quite scary [&:]

Have you had any sort of work done inside? Like a radio installed or something?

Yes, I had a Pioneer navigation system installed about 1 year and 10 months ago.
Are there any plug attachments to the back of the AC/Heater control that would change the speed of the air coming out??
Dont go changing any wires around.
Verify correct wiring via the following diagram showing wire colors and connectors:

Blower Motor Resistor location:

Hope this helps.
PM me if I can help any more.

OK - it seems as everything is pointing to the "blower motor resistor." I just ordered one from Ford for $11 and it should be in by tomorrow.
The only problem is that I dont know where to access the blower motor resistor. Any idea where I can find it?
The PDF above mentions the following... "The blower motor resistor can be accessed from below the RH side of the intrument panel." Do they mean underneath where we plug in our tuners or behind the actual dashboard **gulp**

Well, I replaced the resistor and it didnt fix the problem. I think the problem Im having is with the plug to the blower switch or the actual blower switch but Im 95% sure that its the plug to the blower switch. See pic below...
When I inspected the plug it actually looks like it melted a very very very little bit where it connects to the blower switch on the climate control module. The pic is not that clear but you can see a slight difference. Im wondering if this slight melting or deformity is causing the plug not to seat correctly and therefore messing with the fans speed. The wires themselvesand everything else look fine and dont look abnormal from the rest of the wires behind the center console.
To make sure the plug was the problem, I connectedit to the blower switch and tried moving it around while the fan was running to see if it would go back to its normal speed and it did. When I stopped moving it around then it blew out faster again (on setting 1 - which is the setting Im having the issue on).
Now, if I can just change the plug to the blower switch I think it will solve the problem with setting1 blowing out faster than setting 2.
My question is, how do I do that? Does Ford sell the plug? The plug looks like it connects to a boat load of wires behind the radio and I dont want to mess with that stuff. If theres a way just to change the plug itself withough cutting, soldering, etc... then I think Ill be OK. Let me know what you think please!! [&o]
