I used to have the same problem occasionally but after installing the MGW shifter, I've never missed a shift again. It made a huge difference.

I have the CHE K member brace and it helped a lot but I still have the problem on occasion. Soon I will have a new shifter and motor mounts. I noticed having the problem a lot more after I put my SCT in and started shifting higher than stock would ever allow...

I feel that the motor mounts and/or a K-member with torque limiters will help with this very problem. I think getting a new short throw will help too in that you dont have as long a travel to third gear under WOT or hard acceleration in general. So torque limiters first and short throw (MGW) and you will be shifting with 2 fingers at WOT and never miss third. Matt your advice worked and I got the torque limiters and it was an easy install!

haha. so buy a shifter. have same problem. buy motor mounts then. possibly have same problem again? lol. sounds like i need to get a driver mod before i do anything.

never had any problems with my past manuals; but they were a cobalt and an old jeep wrangler....
Actually an aftermarket shifter, (I will use the Steeda tri ax for example as that is what I have) is set up to allow you to just slam the shifter up from 2nd and with no real aiming you will hit 3rd every time.

LOL @ threads like this

Some people saying an aftermarket shifter will make it so you will hit 3rd "every time". Others saying an aftermarket shifter is not the answer to the problem.

Going from the stock shifter to an aftermarket shifter is a 100% improvement in my opinion, thats why I reccomend one to fix the issue. The stocker just has way to much play in gear and feels like I needed to reach almost to the passanger window when going from 2nd to 3rd.

I must agree that changing out the shifter is going to be your best solution. When I removed the stock shifter, the first thing I noticed is that there are no cetering springs. Its just a ball and socket. I installed the MGW and cannot say enough about how much an improvment it is. The MGW has centering springs that guide you straight into the 3rd. hole everytime, all the time. No more hesitating hoping your lined up for the gate. It seems to me that the stock shifter was a poor selection on Fords part as it does not compliment the drivetrain or hold the same quality as the rest of the car.

My 2 cents.

Many people put a new shifter in thinking it cures the problems but then find out they dont, then you see a thread stating. "i put a new shifter in and still miss gears WTF"

When i put my hurst in it was 100% better i agree, but hell when you are shifting 6500+ going into 3rd, the tranny is torqing quite a bit and you will still miss the gears sometimes. Not as much as stock but still not all the time either. A new shifter is not going to stop the tranny binding. It can make up for some of the problem but not all of it.

read up on threads about them

These are the solution to the problem IMO. Yes a new shifter is nice and will help some but certainly not like this mod does.

I think it deends on what shifter you install. The MGW is far superior in quality and workmanship to all others on the market. Since I instlled the MGW, I've never missed a shift as other's who have installed the MGW will testify.

The Hurst ia a great looking shifter and very economical in comparison but it's just not the smae in term of quality.
