If it's regularly driven on the street, then I would stay away from a torque converter. Taking the car up to 3,000 rpm or whatever at a stoplight every time you take off is going to get annoying. I would not want to live with that much throttle lag on a day-to-day basis.

Nitrous on the other hand won't impact daily driving at all. It seems like that would be the way to go.
What are you talking about???? I have a 3000 stall and I personally noticed NO difference stop and go from stop lights. I hit a stop light like every 7 minutes of driving. This IS my daily driver I have 27 k miles on a 2007 mustang. I drive my car EVERYWHERE.

Don't listen to these guys I'm pretty sure they don't have any expierence with a 3000 stall torque converter. I hit the gas the car goes, Replace the torque converter after you burn out the stock. - still go with nitrous

You need more traction before you do either one. The 555's a good street tire, but don't hook for crap at the track. You'll also want something on a 17x9 or 17x8. That wheel is way too heavy. With the mods you have, you can be in the 12's with proper rubber and a little weight loss. I wouldn't even think about either of your 2 suggested mods without some good track rubber. Launching at 3k won't do you any good on street tires, and running nitrous without sticky tires at the track could be dangerous and again, you'll probably lose traction when the nitrous kicks in.

Every time I read something like this I get closer and closer to purchasing my PI Torque converter. Maybe I'll just buy both though! Someone hide my credit card please!

Torque converters have got the be the most misunderstood auto part on the planet. Just because something has a stall speed of 3000 rpm does NOT mean it's going to wind up to 3000 rpm taking off under light throttle from a stop light. Under normal driving conditions a 3000 stall converter will show no changes in drivability whatsoever. Even at highway speeds there is no negative side effects because modern torque converters have an internal clutch that locks them up at cruising speeds.
The stock S197 torque converter stalls at just under 2500. A typical S197 GT engine needs about 3000 to really start making torque so a 3000 stall converter really wakes these cars up.
Darkfire GT is right in that those 18" rims are heavy and you have less sidewall with an 18" tire. For the track you want to get as much sidewall as possible. Sidewall flex will help your launch.
You need to worry about traction before you need to worry about more power. Forget the NOS and work on traction for now.
To give you an idea of how much larger rims with less sidewall effect your launch, I am currently running 3/10's slower on my 18" rims and KDW's (285 40 18) than I was with my stock Pirellis on 17" rims.

You will get a bigger et drop with the nitrous, but more consistency wit the TC.

281GT,

What do you think of the TCI 3500 TC? I was thinking about getting it but i believe that is the one that makes your car shift alot slower. Please let me know. Thanks!
