Passenger side air bag question

Passenger side air bag question
It is to my knowledge that when someone is sitting in the passenger seat, the air bag light should be off. It is also to my knowledge that when no one is sitting in the passenger seat, that the light should be illuminated stating the passenger airbag is off. The only time my light on is when you first start the car, regardless if anyone is sitting there. Any input?

RE: Passenger side air bag question
You are correct... In addition, if someone is sitting in your passenger seat and they weigh under a certain weight- the light should be on. The reason for this to not have the air baggo offduring an accident unless the person sitting thereweighs enough and can handle the pressure of the bag hitting their body. When my 13 year old son sits in my front passenger seat the light comes on. He weighs about 95 lbs. I am not sure what the cut off is as far as the weight.
Hope this helps clarify.

RE: Passenger side air bag question
Oh, ok. So it only comes on if an underweight person sits there? Makes sense. Only reason I ask is b/c in my moms 2005 Pathfinder it stays on even if no one is sitting there. I guess the Ford guys were a step ahead[&:]
