Need help with steering wheel shake... FIXED!
What could cause my steering wheel to shake ever so slightly at 45 mph +? And it is slight, but I can feel it and even see it (the shake in the steering wheel) on the highway.
This started after I rotated my stock tires. It continued after I got my new wheels/tires from Tirerack.com.
Hence, I don't think the tires are out of balance. I even rotated my new tires to see if it would go away. No luck...
I never got an alignment after my car was lowered but I didn't have the shake then either. I don't feel anything coming from the wheels, just in the steering wheel.
Any ideas?

i'm thinking i'm gonna get an alignment tomorrow morning. but i don't have much hope that that will fix it. i don't understand how rotating your tires will suddenly causea wobble/shake in the steering wheel.
but i'll do it just to check it off the list. then maybe it can be inspected as well. only have not quite 8k miles on it...

Alignment wont fix a wheel shake problem. If the wheels vibrate/shake the first step whould be to check balance again. try roadforce balancing adn if they are aftermaket wheels check to see if you need hubcentric rings.

Check this post...Probably doesnt apply if you had issues with the stock wheels on. But for Jay, this could be a factor

RE: Need help with steering wheel shake...
i DID notice those retaining rings on the rotor tonight when i rotated the wheels. i wondered why one stud had them and none of the others did...
damn.... i got to take the wheels off AGAIN! ha ha, if it fixes it, it will be well worth it.
i'll post the results in 30 mins or so!

How long ago did you get your wheels? Did you remove the retaining clips on the rotors before throwing on the wheels?

Doesnt explain why you had any vibration with the stock wheels though, unless they went out of balance a little bit. But for aftermarket wheels, the retaining clips could definitely be the cause. Good luck!
