Crossthreaded Wheel Stud

Crossthreaded Wheel Stud
Today I took my drivers side front tire off of the car to inspect the brakes. I noticed that there was some resistance on one of the lug nuts after I had already broken it loose with the lug wrench. When I got the lug nut off I noticed some metal shavings and could see that the lug nut was crossthreaded on the stud.
I was able to re-install the lug nut and it seems to be holding fine, but I want to fix this as soon as possible. Should I just go ahead and replace the damagedwheel stud or is it possible to clean up the threads using a die? Does anybody have any tips on replacing the wheel stud? I plan on doing this myself and I do have an impact gun which should make things a bit easier. Also, where should I buy new studs? Should I get them at the Ford dealership?

RE: Crossthreaded Wheel Stud
The stud can easily bedriven out with a hammer (large ball peen if you have one). There's a hole in the backing plate to allow the stud to come out, just rotate the hub to line up the stud with the hole. To install, insert the new stud and pull it into place by screwing on the lug nut and tightening it to pull the stud into the hub. Since the lug nut is closed, youneed to add a few washers as you bring the stud through the hub in order to get it all the waythrough (or buy an open nut at a h/w store).I've bought studs and lug nuts from the dealer. Front and rear studs aredifferent. I don't know if auto supply stores would have them.
