Default Weight reduction.

As we all know, losing weight is the only thing that helps all aspects of the car. In an attempt to reduce weight on this car, it will further improve the performance of our beloved GTs

Here is a list of a few things I will be doing to help reduce the weight, any and all other inputs will be greatly appreciated.

BMR K member = -20lbs
Sypdershaft = -23lbs
MMR Rear seat delete kit = ~40lbs
Corbeau A4 racing seats = ~30lbs savings per seat (estimated)
steeda pullies = ~3lbs(?)
Lightweight battery - ???
lightweight flyhweel - ???
Steeda radiator support - 8lbs

And then there's all the little odds and ends of the suspension that are lighter than the factory steel parts such as;

panhard bar
LCAs
UCA

These generally yield a few pounds of weight savings, stock mufflers are pretty heavy too.

some free weight reduction mods;

spare tire / jack
tools
trunk interior BS

I am also in search of lightweight wheels again, as they will provide a lot of weight savings, especially where it counts the most

the general rule of thumb is for every 1lb of rotational mass you remove its equal to 10lbs of sprung weight.. this includes all moving parts of the car.

Pullies, flywheel, driveshaft, wheels, brakes. ETC

I'm on a quest to put my mustang on a diet but still maintain street manners. The first of these mods I will do are the K member, sypdershaft and lightweight battery, which you will be hearing from me again in a couple of weeks after i complete those mods.

I'll keep everyone updated on my mustangs diet, my car will be setup for road course and Auto x. I don't really have any goals set as far as a specific weight, just as light as possible. Acheiving a perfect or close to 50/50 weight distribution is also something i want.

Let me know what you guys think and any other input is greatly appreciated.

Steeda makes a light weight radiator support.You can also get a trunk mount battery kit which will help if you do any 1/4 mile racing. I too am putting my fat pigon a diet. I like the light weight battery and the Steeda radiator support. I am not to sure about B&M `S K member support. I have not heard much on them,as far as testimonials.

Doesn't the steeda radiator support eliminate the front sway bar though?

glad you started this thread... i'm about to do the same thing to my car. got into doing some show mods but now i'm 100% back into GO mods. Just installed a nitrous kit and bought some drag radials. i'm thinking of doing the rear seat delete kit and a couple more weight saving mods since i hit the track every couple of weeks for our track's test and tune nights.

It's ironic that you plan to reduce weight for better ETs, then when you hit 11.49, you put it back on again. My car is about 200 lbs heavier than stock.
