Default Dumb Salesman

Alirght, I've been looking for an 05 for about 4 months here in the Atlanta area. Today, I went to spec out an 06 for my order. I've been to about 4 dealers and talked to about 3 others on the phone.

Now the F-150, which would be my second choice of new vehicle, is the king around here. And as far as Ford, mustang is second.

Maybe, its b/c of this forum (THANK YOU) and I feel more knowledgable, but every damn sales person I talked to knows **** about the V6, GT, and COBRA. Although, the SVT dealer was the brightest and also the biggest *** HOLE. Most of the guys who handled our F-250 were pretty knowledgable but when it came to the Mustang I was educating them.

They were basing my spec today after the 05 and hadn't even seen the Ford's site on the 06 listing. They actually made copies of what I printed out from the site.

Just wondering if that's the consensus among y'all's experiences when buying/inquiring on the any mustang.

Yes, I had that fustration when buying mine, every dealer I went to was totally clueless about the majority of questions I had. They couldn't even get the color names right! I was even told that the V6 had a 4.3L engine and 250 hp....I don't even know where they got that one from. I recently took my car into the dealership to have the oil changed (had free coupons) and was looking at all the new mustangs and ended up schooling a dealer on them, I can't believe these people are supposed to be selling the cars and they have no knowlege of them. LOL, nothing major here, but a couple salesmen here in Cali didn't know the names of the colors. One refered to the Sonic blue as True blue....

I can forgive him because he got me a good deal on my GT

When the car sells itself and people are tripping over themselves to buy one, why bother learning all about it when all you do is take orders and not actually 'sell' them? Having worked in sales all my life (not automotive) the sleazy/lazy/loafing reps will take the easy way and just let the car 'speak for itself' (euphamism for I haven't got a friggin clue because I'm too lazy to do my job).

Just my two cents.

I am a sales rep for Ford. We do not have any official order guide from Ford as of today.
Almost all of our other Ford vehicle have an order guide that is out. Including one on the new Fusion model! It always seems outside sources have the info. before we do!

What about sales brochures? Surely every salesperson has access to a brochure, yet ask some of them about info that is right in the brochure and you'll get a stupid look or outright fabrication in response.

And dont forget that forums like this are a great source of info, too. The factory and dealers should definately be in these and they'll get an education!

Unfortunately, this assumes you care about your job and take pride in what you do. For me, as I am sure most on this board, we seek knowledge. That is why we are here. If I sold cars and any customer, ever, came in a told me something I didn't know about the car, aside maybe some very trivia history or something, I would be ashamed. I mean, if someone thought a V6 came with a 4.3 (I don't believe Ford even makes a 4.3) then come on here or really the concept of taking pride in their work is on a whole other scale.

I should take more time and put more pride into the grammatical accuracy of my posts. [sm=repost.gif]

I was fortunate, as the guy I bought mine from is a Mustang owner and actually knew what he was talking about. Now the guy I bought my wife's Chevy from is a different story. He was the organizer for dealer related Corvette shows and didn't realy know much about Vettes. Nice guy though. Go with what you know.
