I would definitely be asking for a brand new car....one off the car carrier!

This is not true. Dealers by law do not have to disclose damage on a new car if the damage is under a certain amount of a money. It varies state by state but I believe Ohio for example sets the threshold at 900? (If anyone knows the actual amounts, please correct me.)

New cars are damaged ALL the time/ tiny scratches etc etc coming off the truck, banged around during shipping or whatnot and are fixed without ever informing the buyer as long as the damage is under the limit.

Most of the time the damage is so minor the buyer of the new car will never notice a difference over the lifetime of the car as long as the job is done right. In the OP's case it looks like the dealership messed up a little bit.

When I used to work at Lexus they had one LS with the a giant scratch on the hood and it was buffed/sanded out. Nearly perfect, but if you ran your hand over the scratched part you could feel the difference from the factory paint.

Also, back to the OP's question. I've never had any problems with the A/C on the 1 setting, nor have I heard of any problems anyone on the forum has had. So it must be relatively rare. AC's are pretty reliable these days.

I have never had a problem with my AC but it would seem to me that the dealer should fix it for you; I do not understand why you are wanting to do it yourself. If you are having a problem with the dealer you bought the car from then take it to a different dealer; any dealer will repair it as long as it is still under warranty.

You are right...but that threshold amount is really low. Here I believe it is $500 an I assume most states are similar ($900 sounds reasonable).

That amount is to cover transport damage though. The OP said the car was wrecked. A wrecked car cannot be sold as new. Period. Wrecked cars can be repaired and sold as certified cars...but not new.

Scratches and dings and such are totally expected getting cars to the dealer. Wrecking them is not.

Default Hey

In texas I believe the threshold was $500.
And believe me, the dealer did this I am 100% sure, I don't want to get into b/c it would take to long...they knew and they pulled one by me...

I don't want to fix the A/C myself, I am taking it in just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Ah I see. I misunderstood the OP. I thought he meant that only the door panel paint was scratched, not that the car was completely wrecked.

Good luck with the A/C. I wouldn't accept anything less than a fully functioning unit given the heat out in Texas.

Yeppers, its a known problem.
Either your fan switch or the connector that attaches it to the witring harness has gotten some resistance built up in the contacts and melted.

Or its your speed resistor assembly in the air plenum that has speed #1
burned out.
