had 410 ford gears installed the installer said they had a good pattern on both front and rear with 8 thousanths backlash clearance, there is some noise when coasting or decelerating (no load) not bad but more so than the stock 355 had ,should i be worried or is this normal , ford calls for 8-12 thousanths clearance but ,i have heard 6-7 because of the hardness of the ford gears , he told me to drive it for a while , and will stand behind all parts and labor so that is not an issue ,please chime in with your ford 410 gears , please be honest.

 

What was the last letter in the part number? Heard motive have some whine to them...maybe you got motive gears?

PS...i don't have aftermarket gears...just trying to help lol

 

Thanks Ryan . yes they are the 410a from ford ,i have about 100 miles on them now and they have quieted down , i think i will be good to go

 

Gears have a break in period of 500 miles...Sounds like you will be fine...

 

I've driven with mine for about 300 miles now. I never had any noise. If I remember correctly, the installer told me that my stock gears had a backlash of 9 thousandths and my 4.10 gears have a backlash of between 9 and 9.5 thousandths. He seemed really pleased. I didn't know what he was talking about. lol
