Default Shifter question!

Does anyone know what size the metric threads are on the 5 speed stick? I wanna get a Hurst T handle and I need to know this. I find a half inch fine nut spins on but its loose. Does 12 mm sound right?

Yes, it's 12mm x 1.25 Go to your local Pep Boys, they have a tap & drill bit kit for about $6.00 I have a custom engraved cue ball for my shifter and I drilled & tapped it myself.

Thanks, '05. I thought someone would know, but now I have a different problem. I took off the stock **** and boot, but damn, the boot is attached to the ****! How would I get it off to reuse with the T handle? Or better yet, does anyone know of a replacement boot that fits the console like stock, but is NOT attached to the shifter handle [****]?

Ok, now I know the **** just kind of rolls off the boot. But that leave a boot with a big hole at the top. Satin, how did you handle your cue ball install so the boot looks right? Cant tell from the pics.

That was easy. Just go to your local hardware store and find a couple of thick washers, that are the same diameter as the bottom of the stock shifter ****. Also get a 12mm nut. Then put the boot on 1st, then place the nut on, all the way down the shaft, place the washers on top of the nut, then thread the new shifter **** on. The washers will keep the boot tight up against the bottom of the ****. But, since I have a cue ball, it's all easy. If you have a small ****, then it might not look so good?

After much carefull consideration, I think I want a T handle that specifically fits the Tri Ax shifter and mates to the factory boot. Ive looked all over the Net and found some that are a kind of weird gold with either a running horse, Bullit, or Mach 1 emblem. And at that, Im not sure if they would fit the tri ax and the stock boot. If anyone knows of a chrome or brushed aluminum T handle that fits the stock boot, Please Let Me Know!
