I can't understand why folks don't cut their orig antenna down. It's so simple. Just put it in a vise, knock of the end ball, cut the antenna to 18" with a hack saw, grind the end down to fit the ball, glue the ball back on -- you're in business. I haven't lost any reception by going to 18"; that I can notice.

Folks don't do that because aftermarket shorty antenna are cheap as hell. It's a little lazy yeah but it gets a little questionable whether it's worth bothering with when we're talking $20.

yeah, when you can get a shorty for $20, it isn't even worth the trouble.

But, as this discussion proves, it's often more than $20. Every time you replace it, it's another $20 + S&H. It's free to cut the stock one down. And it will last longer than the rest of the car.

Lets see.... $20+, ordering, swapping, doing without for a week, and complaining about the whole thing - every 1-2 years. Or Free, 20 minutes "work", and never touch it again. Hmmmmm, which will I choose?

Lets see, you can NEVER return to stock without buying the OEM antenna again. So if you move and your cut antenna doesn't get any stations, you're screwed.

I prefer to not mangle the OEM parts on my car. Instead I replace them with aftermarket and store them incase I ever need to return my car back to stock.

I still have the original wheels, tires, mufflers, spoiler, antenna, air box and air filter all ready to go back on if need be.

Also, I've bent my shorty antenna several times and bent it back every time. Its over a year old now and still looks straight.

I used to do that too. Had all kinds of stock parts for various vehicles cluttering up my basement. Never used them, though. I eventually end up tossing them out, giving them away, or selling them.

That's because few take the time to learn how to do mods anymore they just want to know how much and how long. A lot of my mod reward comes from knowing I did the work myself.
