Default What to do!??

My 07 Mustang GT is going to be paid for in a couple of months and I’ve been researching options for my next car. Although I’ve enjoyed my Mustang I’d like something with a little more HP. I’ve read that the 2010 Mustang GT might have a 400 HP engine and that would a welcome improvement. The 2010 Challenger will have 425 HP which sounds even better. But after more research I discovered that it’s so darn heavy that it’s hardly faster than the 300 HP Mustangs. It does have a six speed manual though and that’s a big plus. The Camaro will have some HP but I don’t care for the design work. My other thought is to drop a blower on my current engine but it seems like that would be money that would be lost and in the end lower my resale value. How great do you all think the 2010 Mustang will be? Will they mess up the design with funky design stuff? Well it have 400 HP? A six speed manual?

what i've heard from all the car magazines is this:

twin turbocharged V6 good for 340hp.
V8 will move to 5.0 liter (hp?)
Boss 5.8-6.1L as an option in 2011+ (hp?)

at the very least the V8's will have to have more then 340hp if they are an option over the ecoboost V6.

Don't expect EcoBoost engines to make it into the 2010 Mustang. The V6 will be around 300hp and the V8 will be around 400hp. The 2010 is a body refresh on the existing S197 platform. You'll need to wait till 2012 for a complete redesign.

If you want a Challenger, the R/T model is arguable a much better deal than the SRT8.

"But here's the shock news: We hear there is a faction at Ford seriously contemplating fitting the new twin turbo EcoBoost V-6 to the 2010 Mustang. As they try to figure out how to meet 35mpg CAFE by 2020, Ford engineers are wondering whether the V-8 has a long term future. The EcoBoost engine, which is currently scheduled to debut in a performance version of the Fusion, could be the more fuel efficient alternative for Mustang in the long term. Depending on spec, the EcoBoost is capable of up to at least 415hp, and has the torque to match a regular V-8.

Traditionalists need not worry, though - V-8s will still be very much part of the Mustang program for 2010. If the EcoBoost version does make production, Ford would probably offer it alongside the V-8, and let buyers decide which they prefer. There won't be much of a price difference, if any - although the base V-6 is a cheaper engine, by the time things like turbochargers are added it's basically V-8 money, say our sources.

Don't expect any changes in today's, base 4.0-liter V-6 offering, as its prime purpose is motivating low-end and rental-fleet Mustangs. But the Mustang GT model's V-8-currently a 4.6 liter, SOHC, three-valver-will be replaced by a new 5.0-liter engine that's essentially an evolution of the old architecture. In fact, the new 5.0 may even appear in a limited edition run-out series of current model Mustang GTs - is it finally time for the reborn Boss 302?

The only way to know about the 2010 refresh, is to wait, it has been one of the best kept secrets, with Ford throwing out misimformation, to keep people off balance and unsure of exactly what it will be.
So untill it is official from Ford all news is suspect, but the possible good news is, the release date should be early, to try and crash the party on the Camaro release.
So if you are even thinking about wanting a 2010, just cool your jets and wait, if you can't wait, get a forged stroker, top it off with a Whipple 3.4L, and hang on.

I like the Challenger, but it'll be interesting to see what the future holds for the Mustang.

If I was going to do a new engine a good option might be the Shadrack 427 CI cammer that will be available soon. It is a reproduction of the original Ford 427 Cammer and will meet emission standards. It is a tight fit but not as tight as it was in the original Mustangs.

The Challanger is pretty neat but it is super heavy, like over 4000 pounds and it amazes me that it is so slow for its HP.
