The only 69 Mustang with a 390 was the mach 1. And I seriously doubt its one.. Id say its a garden variety 351 2 barrel or a 302 . not an issue for your car

I do have a 69 coupe with a healthy 351, 4 bbl, close ratio 4 on the floor, 3:55 gears with a locker, and 15" late model wheels and tires (off a 93 stang). It doesn't hold a candle to my 06 GT. Of course traction is probably the biggest problem because smoke and burning rubber doesn't get me anywhere, but it sure is fun. Comparing the two the 69 feels faster but believe me it is much slower. Its so loud and bumpy that that is makes you think your going fast. Even if I could get the 69 to hook it would still loose with the 06 slipping a little off the line. The old stangs need some chassis and suspension work to hang with our cars even if they have a more potent engine.

When I was a teenager I had a 67' Mustang with a 351 windsor, automatic transmission & 2 barrel carb. It was quick from 0-60 but after that dog slow. I could hang with almost anybody 0-60. I raced a 69' chevelle with a 2 speed 396, 4 barrel carb and pulled ahead to 60 mph then he blew by me. I raced a guy who really knew his stuff with engines and had a GTO (not sure what year but the time I raced was 1978) and hung with him to 60 then he completely blew me away.

I don't have that car now but I would think it would hang with my 08' Mustang up to 60 mph but then the 08' would pull away. I loved that car but it gave me mechanical trouble every single year. These newer cars are much nicer cars.

God I'd love to have a '68 Charger black in perfect condition.
