You pay 2000 -3000 so there is no lip. They dont reclear the whole car. Just the panels that are getting striped. They sand the base color down, paint the stripes, spray the clear, sand the clear then apply an extra specail buffing.
I paid 2400 for my stripes and they are show quality and are basically like a tatoo - no edge.
If You just spay stripes over your paint and then clear well it will look like Maco did it.
You get what you pay for and I would suggest looking at some examples from other stripe jobs.

As to the OP's question...I suppose it truly does depend where and who does your stripes. My bodyman "Mark" truly underestimated himself when he did my car. I paid $1900'ish for my cervini parts to be painted and installed...and for my stripes (top and sides). Mine are also under the clear-coat....the only real way to have them done IMO. He did a darn good job too.

Figure $1800-2500 for stripes buried in clear with no edges at all. Buffed for show and the car will take on a whole other level of class and style IMO. If the car is black or a dark color that may drive the cost up a bit as there can be no flaws as dark paint will show every mistake the shop made and it will be evident in sunlight or florescent lights.
